Coverage Options - 4.1 / 5

First American offers two plans, the Basic coverage, and Premier coverage.

While their basic coverage protects mainly kitchen appliances, their Premier plan offers complete protection for all main home systems as well as appliances.

In line with most businesses in the industry, however, they will not cover cosmetic damages, damages due to improper maintenance or installation, and any known or unknown pre-existing conditions.

Coverage amounts differ by contract, yet their limits range around $3,000 in the aggregate for kitchen refrigerators, $1,500 for heating systems, and $500 for ductwork, which are substantially higher than comparable companies.

Contract & Price - 3.8 / 5

Annual premiums with First American can range from $300 to $500+ depending on the plan and option selections, quite reasonable within the home warranty industry.

The company extends a standard 12-month contract term and allows customers to obtain quotes and enroll online. Contracts seem to have different cancellation policies according to geographical location, so customers are advised to read their warranty agreements thoroughly before signing.

For instance, Texas residents may cancel their plans within the first seven days of coverage for a full refund, whereas Virginia residents have 20 days to cancel and receive back the entirety of their payment, provided they have not filed any claims under said contract.

HORRIABLE CUSTOMER SERVICE!! Please shop around for other services, I have been waiting to get my air conditioner fixed all summer, OVER TWO MONTHS of no air conditioning. The contractor they assigned us does not call, when you try to call them they do not answer and the home warranty representives only repeat the same thing and refuse to intervene beyond sending emails telling the contractor to contact you. The person who is handeling our claim hung up on my husband, who at this point is extremely fusterated after 2 months of trying to get answers and help. After speaking to over 5 different people here, and a supervisor we can’t get ahold of again, I can honestly say this company has a... Read More

Contractor doesn't contact me twice and I wait for them to find another contractor only to be told they won't switch contractors to one that will actually call me back. HORRIBLE customer service. I was actually told not all employee know the correct information when they tell me what is covered. I would never use them again.

The company is not able to override their computer system to assign me an approved contractor that they assigned to me 4 days ago that I canceled because I was able to fix the problem myself before the came to the house. I have been assigned this company on past claims successfully. I had another A/C problem today and entered a new claim with a contractor I didn't want to use. They couldn't change unless they had assigned them to me in the past and I entered a complaint against them. They are mandated to follow their system, period! Even their resolution department cannot do something as simple as this to satisfy their customer's request. I realize they have this system so as to not... Read More

CONSUMER BEWARE!!! OPENLY ADMITTED TO COMMITING FRAUD!!! THEY DIDNT WANT TO PAY FOR A CLAIM THAT IS CLEARLY STATED AS COVERED SO THEY HAD THEIR PEOPLE CALL IT SOMETHING ELSE THAT IS NOT COVERED!!! My fuse box shorted out. This is clearly covered by contract under electrical. (fuses, fuse panel, junction box, wiring, circuit breakers, switches/fuses, plugs, and conduit all covered. The electrician they sent out said: "I wont even touch it because I don't want to be responsible for the fire it causes".Then said "they try not to pay for these repairs based on cost, and usually have to pay out 50/50 (about half the time"). so they call it "inadequate wiring" and claim this in not covered,... First Ameican Home Warranty - unethical, immoral, fraudulent. Avoid at all costs. Our A/C died 24 July 2018 and we contacted First American Home Warranty (FAH) the next morning via their on-line appointment request and via telephone. Three days later (!!!) Total Air Care (TAC)'s tech came out, saw that pressure was low in our condenser, and topped it off. Two days later, the same problem happens again. Obviously there's a leak somewhere. Second visit took FOUR days to get the technician out - he diagnosed a bad condenser coil (leaking) and told me they would replace it provided the home warranty covered it. FAH decided to replace it, and here's where it goes sideways - well.... Read More

VERY BAD SERVICE!!! As soon as I required the first service, it immediately disappointed me! Submitting the claim was an easy process, but getting the actual service was a nightmare! Three weeks later, and calls-after-calls on my end to follow up, I had to decide to cancel the service and take care of my home coverage myself. They lacked communication to me as a customer. Days passed with no updates from them. I always had to call to make sure things progressed. They were not able to even track the delivery of the part I needed, and three weeks later, they told me that the part was available and waiting for pick up since the first week of the order. This was extremely frustrating! They... Read More

"Disappointed yet again, and again, and again! When will I learn???" See my review below from 08/13/18 and updated 08/14/18. Along with the long delays in trying to repair the refrigerator, and then ultimately having FAHW agree to replace the appliance, now its long delays, cancelling, and rescheduling the delivery of the replacement. Apparently their delivery company JB HUNT, is as flakey as they are. FAHW ordered the replacement on 08/15/18. I got word from the delivery company the next day that it would be delivered on 08/24/18. A full nine days later. Their schedule indicated it would be delivered between 8:00 AM and 5:00 PM. Great window. This morning on the day of... Read More

I don't know where to begin. We are now starting the 3 month of our ordeal to get our Oven replaced. The follow up and customer service by our claims administrator (trust me I want to use names) was horrible. I have spent hours on the phone to try and resolve this issue sooner. Customer Service representative refuse to give you their supervisors name or names. It took a week to get an approval on the amount of our cash out. The technician was great. He was very thorough, and was just as exasperated by the process and the amount of time it took to get to this point. We should have another oven installed in 5 to 7 Business days. Please do not use this company. We were also charged twice... Read More
