Coverage Options - 4.1 / 5

First American offers two plans, the Basic coverage, and Premier coverage.

While their basic coverage protects mainly kitchen appliances, their Premier plan offers complete protection for all main home systems as well as appliances.

In line with most businesses in the industry, however, they will not cover cosmetic damages, damages due to improper maintenance or installation, and any known or unknown pre-existing conditions.

Coverage amounts differ by contract, yet their limits range around $3,000 in the aggregate for kitchen refrigerators, $1,500 for heating systems, and $500 for ductwork, which are substantially higher than comparable companies.

Contract & Price - 3.8 / 5

Annual premiums with First American can range from $300 to $500+ depending on the plan and option selections, quite reasonable within the home warranty industry.

The company extends a standard 12-month contract term and allows customers to obtain quotes and enroll online. Contracts seem to have different cancellation policies according to geographical location, so customers are advised to read their warranty agreements thoroughly before signing.

For instance, Texas residents may cancel their plans within the first seven days of coverage for a full refund, whereas Virginia residents have 20 days to cancel and receive back the entirety of their payment, provided they have not filed any claims under said contract.

Feel good about what they did but they had to come back to do something that should have been done the first time. Cost me $600 dollars. Thought it was suppose to not cost so much but it works.

I have had First American for several years and not had any problems with the technicians they sent out until a faucet repair this fall. They had to come twice and even then, I wondered about their knowledge of the faucet and repair. A couple days later, I found out my garbage disposal did not work. Apparently, he turned the switch to off and forgot to turn it back on. If not for a friend, I would not have known that. I was able to turn it back on. I plan to ask for a different plumbing service if I have another plumbing problem in the near future.

We have had First American Warranty for 1 1/2 years. We have had small repairs throughout the year and they did fine. However, recently our A/C coil was leaking and needed to be replaced. The company they sent out to do the repair was notorious for poor workmanship and dishonest dealings. This company informed us that the total cost was $1500 to replace the evaporator coil ($500 of which we would have to pay, leaving $1000 to be paid by First American). We called 3 other companies in the area to get quotes on replacing the coil and all 3 gave us a total of $1500. Because of the contracted companies reputation, we called First American to get a payout so we could go with a different... Read More

Bad experience. To speak with customer service, do not have to wait long, but that is all. Contractors, who work with this Home Warranty corporation, are not experienced or simply do not know what they are doing. We had more problems after problems were "fixed" ,such as improperly connected wires inside thermostat, leading to sky high bills, wire melting inside control boxes, overcharged systems with too much refrigerant injected into the system, and so on.

I’ve never experienced anything worse than FAHW! Not one so called contractor was capable of repairs! They sent out 5 different people for a telephone line, NOT ONE fixed it! Same problem for heater. Terrible choice, save yourself and pick another.

Let me preface this review with the fact that though I have had home warranties on new homes previously, this is the first time I've ever used a warranty. I couldn't even say which warranty companies they were. So when I purchased a 32 yr old home that had this warranty. I wasn't sure how they worked. Within a few months of my son moving in, problems began. So far, the A/C stopped working, the stove digital display stopped working, the garbage disposal developed a substantial leak, the dishwasher started leaking and having problems and a leak developed from the upstairs master tub faucet. As of today, everything has been repaired and a new dishwasher is on order as the... Read More

We have a water leak under the kitchen sink. When I placed a claim, the contractor who contacted me wasn't able to come out for almost 2 weeks. When I called First American to complain and try to expedite, the got another contractor, but when he called back the day he was scheduled to come out (after we arranged the afternoon off work, he informed me that he was an appliance repairman, not a plumber. So we had to cancel him and call the warranty company again. I had spoken multiple times with multiple people at the warranty company and they seem at best indifferent and untrained. I've had much better service with other companies. Avoid this one.

Impossible to work with. Every time I call in they are rude and when issues arise there is not a manager to assist. Like when an associate told me my account was canceled even though it was still open.
