Coverage Options - 3.5 / 5

Home Warranty of America offers two plans, the Premier and Premier Plus, which include coverage for over 30 items traditionally not covered under basic home warranty plans.

The company also provides optional coverage for secondary appliances, saltwater equipment, and even primary and secondary pools or spas.

Besides offering a remarkably extensive coverage, HWA also has a GreenPlus plan that allows customers to replace their covered systems or appliances with Energy Star-qualified products.

This last option is available for $5.77 a month or $75 a year, which delivers excellent value, considering the amount of water and electricity customers can save using high-efficiency models.

Claims Processing - 3 / 5

Home Warranty of America charges different service fees for each plan, between $60-$100.

Though they have a standard 30-day waiting period before the coverage can begin, maintenance records aren't necessary to receive service.

HWA states they are not responsible for routine maintenance of systems, appliances, or components.

Clients who want those items to remain in working order will have to service themselves.

Two excellent things about this company is that they offer 24/7 claims processing and though they require authorization for contractors before providing services, these don't necessarily have to be from their network.

I would rate a zero for the service and terrible customer service.

very bad service.. don't assign companies for repair properly. Most of the time company assigned doesn't serve the area. so it takes longer to get anything fixed.

We filed a claim on October 5, 2019 for a non-functioning furnace. It is currently October 21, 16 days later, and we still don't have a working furnace. HWA debated a full replacement vs parts replacement. For a few days we were scheduled for a full replacement, now they are back to just replacing the motor. We live in Minnesota and have had many days below freezing temperature, so I find this timeline absolutely unacceptable, especially with a young child in the home.

I would rate zero as well - along with the rest of us who have been scammed by this awful company - and frankly pretty flimsy business model. IN the end HWA hides behind loopholes - charging for every visit, nothing gets done, no accountability for quality and then ultimately refused to replace a dead a/c - and I only just bought the house. They are the absolute worst scam artists I've ever come in contact with, and just like the rest of Americans, we've come in contact with a LOT!

I would rate a zero if I could. I was in process of buying a home and during the home inspection process The HVAC system was not cooling properly during the inspection. The sellers stated they would offer a home warranty to reassure me everything was fine. The home warranty company required the unit to be repaired prior to issuing a warranty on the property. The seller had the suspect HVAC unit repaired and HWA issued a home warranty on the property. This gave me the confidence to move forward and buy the property, and close on the house. Shortly after buying the house the HVAC was not cooling. I started a month and a half long process and no less than 20 calls, and emails this was... Read More

This must be a cover for some kind of scheme since they're so incompetent at what they do. Long story short, stay away. They don't care about anything, don't check on anything, and you're the one who has to stay on them just to get the smallest task done. We've been waiting over 2 months for our washer to be fixed and are still waiting. The first contractor they chose disappeared, and they just assumed it was fixed without following up with him or us. We called to see why we hadn't been contacted in so long after the first contractor visited. They had to dig through whatever system they have to tell us that the contractor didn't reply to them. So they just assumed it was done??... Read More

Terrible customer service and response. What warranty company can't get a plumber to your house. Because they have 2, in a city of over a million. Makes sense right. Do yourself a favor and save your money. They are in the business of NOT fixing your issue.

I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND HWA TO ANYONE – their lack of concern and all the legal jargon within the contract is all poor customer service, not to mention their lack of researching the service companies prior to knowing who they are sending out for service calls is concerning to say the least…. We had a refrigerator and an AC unit needing repairs shortly after we moved in. The service company ‘THE INSTALLER’ HWA recommended, I had to call twice to schedule an appointment, the appointment was finally scheduled, he never showed up nor did he call to say he was running late or would not make it out. It was quite apparent when he did show up the next day unscheduled/unannounced, he was only there... Read More

If it were possible, this review would be zero stars. HWA home warranty is very difficult to deal with, and clearly lacks concern of their reputation. It took over a month to fix a dishwasher which the tech who came out said was beyond repair. This company has no customer service or quality control. I would prefer my premium back rather then deal with HWA Home Warranty of America ever again. I could never recommend HWA Home Warranty of America to anyone. If I ever buy a new home and they tell me it comes with a HWA Home Warranty of America, I would think twice before buying the home.

Air conditioning went out on thursday night and called friday a 8 am as the temperature was predicted to reach 94 degrees here in Greenville, NC and by mid day had not received a phone call regarding scheduling a service so I reached out to HWA again due to the fact that we have a new born at home which I am concerned about the safety of having here in a home with no A/C mid summer only to be told that despite my contract stating "In emergency situations, HWA will determine what repairs constitute an emergency (generally goods that are essential to health and safety, such as loss of heating, coolin, plumbing or substantial electrical service, and such service renders the home otherwise...
