Home Warranty of America offers comprehensive home warranty plans that cover more than most other basic plans.

Although their annual premiums and call service fees are on the higher end, when compared to similar offers, the company does provide excellent additional coverage such as the GreenPlus option, which replaces old systems and appliances with high-efficiency models.

With extensive coverages, fitting prices, a flexible cancellation policy, and 24/7 claims processing, Home Warranty of America provides everything a discerning customer could wish for.

Home Warranty of America offers two plans, the Premier and Premier Plus, which include coverage for over 30 items traditionally not covered under basic home warranty plans.

The company also provides optional coverage for secondary appliances, saltwater equipment, and even primary and secondary pools or spas.

Besides offering a remarkably extensive coverage, HWA also has a GreenPlus plan that allows customers to replace their covered systems or appliances with Energy Star-qualified products.

This last option is available for $5.77 a month or $75 a year, which delivers excellent value, considering the amount of water and electricity customers can save using high-efficiency models.

Claims Processing - 3 / 5

Home Warranty of America charges different service fees for each plan, between $60-$100.

Though they have a standard 30-day waiting period before the coverage can begin, maintenance records aren't necessary to receive service.

HWA states they are not responsible for routine maintenance of systems, appliances, or components.

Clients who want those items to remain in working order will have to service themselves.

Two excellent things about this company is that they offer 24/7 claims processing and though they require authorization for contractors before providing services, these don't necessarily have to be from their network.

For two months, Home Warranty of America had no plumbers available or willing to work for them in Colorado Springs. This is after they stated that the claim was not covered but in black and white in the contract, the exact issue was to be covered. They stated over the course of multiple phone calls that they had submitted work requests and "should have an answer back in 24-48 hours". I finally decided enough was enough and paid out of pocket for a plumber, which was then not reimbursable. Finally after 2 months of back and forth phonecalls with the company, I told them that I wanted to cancel my contract. Home Warranty of America stated that I was paid in full for the remainder of... We had an A/C breakdown. The provider they recommended could not get to us for four days and I had a 3 month old baby fresh out of the NICU, so we could not wait or relocate. We called and explained the situation and that another provider could fix the same day. They approved the provider and the amount, provided a phone number so the provider could return the invoice and told us it would 5-7 business days for reimbursement. The provider sent them the invoice on June 29th, we were copied on the correspondence. I called on July 15th to verify they had what they needed we were told then, they had it but it would take another 4-6 weeks. They then called back on the 29th to say they somehow... Read More

I have never been so disgusted by a company before. Home Warranty of America is a SCAM. 1. I had an outside water pipe leak at 12 gallons a minute. Their contracted plumber came out, turned it on for a few seconds, then said okay let me call them. He then tells me HWA has to approve the digging that is required before he can even dig to diagnose the problem. This will take 24-48 hours. I'm not sure why someone behind a desk has to approve just to dig, seems like something that should be left up to the plumber himself. Also - how is that not automatically approved for these situations? Do they expect anyone to be able to diagnose a problem in a pipe without digging? This is even after... Read More

On May 20th my AC broke in my home and called HWA for someone to come out and look at it. We opted for the buy out on May 28th and were told that we’d have our check by end of June, first of July. August is almost here and guess what, no check! We’ve called MULTIPLE times throughout the month to find out where our check was to no avail. Each person we spoke to just said ‘we’ll follow up with you we don’t know where your check is.’ And then to be told Do you know how absolutely maddening it is to have a company that you paid good money for give you the absolute run around and not deliver on what is owed? I feel VIOLATED as a consumer by this company. I was told by customer service TODAY... Read More

My experience with HWA has been a NIGHTMARE. I live in Savannah Ga and my AC went out after recently purchasing a home. It's summer and we have very high temperatures and humidity here. I bought a home warranty for a piece of mind but it seems I would be better off without it. It has been two weeks since my AC went out and Home Warranty of America has still not sent out a tech to look at the AC (No one will do business with them because they have a reputation for not paying their vendors). Eventually they authorized me to use a company of my choosing but refused to pay for the initial visit and after receiving the diagnosis they have been dragging their feet with excuse after excuse on... Dissatisfied and would not recommend. Have been without an air conditioner all week and service provider HWA sent out recommended replacement. Its 92 degrees outside and our 1st floor is 84 degrees and we cant even sleep in our bedrooms because its dangerously hot . Very slow to respond and no supervisor to talk to. Will be pisting this on my facebook site to stay away from HWA!

I have had the WORST experience with this company. I have attempted to make 2 claims and never received call backs from any of the contractors they claimed would contact me. I personally contacted one of the companies and was told they never received anything from HWA regarding my matter after a week passed by. I cancelled the policy and notified HWA by both phone and email(per their request) and they still charged me the monthly fee and said I would have to wait 15 business days to get my money back. I wouldn't recommend anyone to use them unless you don't mind having to do all the work yourself.

claim was opened on 6/11 - service contractor showed up on 6/12 did poor analysis , told me that AC is working but NV energy smart thermostat is controlling the temperature, which is not true because my upstairs unit has the same thermostat and works just fine. so I told him that , he went back and checked , and replaced two capacitors , the AC was better but not great for a day, and then back to blowing hot air. so I called HWA again , they sent the service contractor again on 6/18. the unit was checked, and he left without even telling what needs to be fixed. he sent the estimates to HWA on 6/19, and I was told it takes 24-48 hours for the estimates to be approved by HWA , and nothing... There is a facebook page that is titled Home Warranty of America Complaints. That pretty much says it all. I got scammed by them the same as everyone else who has had to deal with them. Made a claim on a water heater. They sent their vendor, i paid the vendor the 100.00 fee. Then HWA refused to approve anything to be done. Most of what they do is in breach of their own contract. No one wants the hassle of fighting these people to get done what you pay for. They are a ripoff.
