Home Warranty of America offers comprehensive home warranty plans that cover more than most other basic plans.

Although their annual premiums and call service fees are on the higher end, when compared to similar offers, the company does provide excellent additional coverage such as the GreenPlus option, which replaces old systems and appliances with high-efficiency models.

With extensive coverages, fitting prices, a flexible cancellation policy, and 24/7 claims processing, Home Warranty of America provides everything a discerning customer could wish for.

Coverage Options - 3.5 / 5

Home Warranty of America offers two plans, the Premier and Premier Plus, which include coverage for over 30 items traditionally not covered under basic home warranty plans.

The company also provides optional coverage for secondary appliances, saltwater equipment, and even primary and secondary pools or spas.

Besides offering a remarkably extensive coverage, HWA also has a GreenPlus plan that allows customers to replace their covered systems or appliances with Energy Star-qualified products.

This last option is available for $5.77 a month or $75 a year, which delivers excellent value, considering the amount of water and electricity customers can save using high-efficiency models.

Claims Processing - 3 / 5

Home Warranty of America charges different service fees for each plan, between $60-$100.

Though they have a standard 30-day waiting period before the coverage can begin, maintenance records aren't necessary to receive service.

HWA states they are not responsible for routine maintenance of systems, appliances, or components.

Clients who want those items to remain in working order will have to service themselves.

Two excellent things about this company is that they offer 24/7 claims processing and though they require authorization for contractors before providing services, these don't necessarily have to be from their network.

Claim number is 3041557 and is still unresolved. I've been without AC for 3 weeks. I put in the claim 3 weeks ago when it went out and HWA was unable to find a contractor in a timely manner and I wasn't willing to risk finding someone on my own and having it not be covered, since that defeats the purpose of a home warranty. I finally spoke to someone what was actually helpful after multiple phone calls and they gave the the information of several contractors on HWAs list that I could try to contact. This was Thursday, 4 days after submitting the claim. It took me less than an hour to get someone and get an appointment for the following Tuesday. The contractor came out the next Tuesday... Aweful customer service and even worse "preferred" sub contractors. Will not be renewing.

These people are unethical. Do not get a home warranty with them. I cancelled my renewal the day before it renewed and was assured the charge would not go through, but the next day, the charge posted. I called HWA customer support number and was told the department in charge of refunds did not have a phone, so I had to email them. I emailed them to no avail. It’s now been 15 days and no refund of the money they were not supposed to take out in the first place.

My contract number is NC-3875829. It has been over a week since the technician came to our home, advised what needed to be done, all proper paperwork provided on our end. Record high temps are coming this weekend. My wife is pregnant and I have a young child as well. It is 90+ degrees in NC and they are both being very negatively effected, and it is frankly dangerous at that temperature as there is no AC in the house, and I feel like we are being put off. We have exhausted all efforts to resolve this issue in a timely manner. We have called in 6 times since last friday 5/17 and had the issue "escalated" each time. We have talked with the "chat" service and had it escalated, and we have... Read More

Poor selection of vendors in my area. If there's any way to check what contractors or vendors they have available where you live, then you should check that first before committing. Then again, you should check that with all the home warranty companies.

Don’t let HWA take your money and deny liability, because that’s what they do. Our cooktop needed repair back in mid December 2018 and HWA appointed a contractor who never turned up. Despite five calls to HWA, nothing was done to fix the problem and by mid April 2019 we were still without a cooktop and cooking on plug-in portable cookers. On the sixth call, HWA finally acknowledged they could not find a contractor and at that point - WITHOUT EVER SEEING THE COOKTOP – decided that the problem was not caused by wear and tear and denied coverage. Don't waste your time and money with this company.

I just don't see the value on return from any aftermarket warranty cars or homes. You pay $600 up front , but if you get a service it cost $100. This covers the service call cost to the company doing the work. Then there is a $1,000 limit to appliances, so at $700 of my cost , I get $300 of protection for 1 year. If too many things brake your warranty can max out how much they will pay. As I said , there is not enough return on my money. Wish the homeowner just gave me the warranty cash when I bought the home.

Good for small issues, but can’t handle larger problems in a timely manner. I have coverage for a well pump but it’s 12 days without water in my home and I still don’t have any results. I asked to talk to a supervisor and got told they have to submit a request to do so. Completely unacceptable on this issue.

HWA are not to be trusted. They are dishonest and do not honor their claims. I filed a claim with HWA because one of my steam boilers burned up (literally melted through the top). HWA sent tech who said he had no idea why it happened. HWA then asked me for a copy of the home inspection, which i provided, and which said that at the time of the inspection the boilers would not fire because the GAS was turned off at the house. So HWA denied the claim based on my not being able to prove the unit was functioning at the time of the contract. I then got the bill from the sV tech that had serviced the boiler just prior to the closing which proved the boilers were working - and submitted this to... Read More

I've never before had to fight so hard to get a broken heater replaced. My family was without heat for over 3 weeks (my 3 year old son!) while I fought tooth and nail to get our system replaced. I gave up trying and decided to pay on my own. I paid almost $7,000 to get the system installed. Then, I thought I got lucky when HWA said they were going to do a buy-out. They offered $1,600. That's 25% of what I paid. I understand that HWA bases their prices on what they pay for things, but you can't buy a heating system AT COST for that much money let alone pay to install it and pay for a condenser. I will forever protest the way that HWA does business. They will lie, cheat, and do... Read More
