Our Overall Rating: 1.1 / 5 (Poor)

HSA Home Warranty policies cover the warranty industry's standard list of appliances and home systems. Policies are available on an annual basis. Once you pay your premium, your policy is in full effect, with no waiting period or home inspection required. Unfortunately, the company doesn't provide a lot of specifics on the most important aspects of a home warranty policy on its website. They do not describe the variety of plans they offer, the cost of those plans, the benefit limits of their policies, or the deductibles associated with making a claim. HSA may have innovative policies, low deductibles and plan prices, great service partners, or a host of other benefits. You have to request a quote to find out.

Speaking of requesting a quote, we also have some concerns about their privacy policy. Once you submit your information to HSA —which you must do to get a quote—the company reserves the right to share your data with marketing affiliates, real estate companies, and other entities with which you might prefer not to share your information.

Contract & Price - 3 / 5

HSA's starting price of $589 for a 12-month contract, makes them the most expensive base-level option on the market. While an exact quote can be generated via an online calculator, we strongly recommend that potential policyholders thoroughly read all the fine print. Once a policy has been activated it is irreversible, since HSA does not offer any sort of cancellation or money-back policies.

Cancellation Policy

The warranty is non-cancelable by either party except for the following: A. The contract fees are not paid. B. Fraud or misrepresentation of facts material to the issuance of this contract. C. If the contract provides coverage for the seller during the listing period and the listing is withdrawn or expires. Should the contract be cancelable under the laws of the state where the contract holder resides, an allowable administrative fee will be charged upon cancellation. HSA may, at its option, decline to issue any renewal or cancel any contract, if the contract fees are not paid within 10 days of the due date.

With their claim of “the nation’s largest network of professional contractors”, HSA aims to provide quick, efficient service. Their service fees range between $75-$100, with no waiting period. Their 30-day recall period, as well as not requiring maintenance records, reflect the company’s wish to make their services easily accessible. Under certain circumstances, HSA’s 24/7 claims department may approve the use of a contractor that operates outside of their network.

Go elsewhere. It's so, so, so, so bad and I'm not one to write or leave reviews. We "inherited" our home warranty when we purchased the house. About two months after, I had no problems calling and scheduling a technician to fix our air conditioner. We recently had a drain backup with sewage in our basement. When I called to get another service appointment, their customer service reps said that my name wasn't on the contract and basically couldn't help me. I was never contacted by a contractor. I called three consecutive days for help and still have yet to get help in a timely manner or within the allotted time in out contract. Meanwhile...the sewage continues to back up. They were... We purchased a house with a home warranty. Our dishwasher did not work and we were told no problem you have the HSA home warranty and it will be taken care of. So they charge us $100 upfront and send this guy out. After flooding the kitchen floor and allowing the dishwasher control panel to fall and hit the ceramic tile floor, he starts getting mad and telling me someone has already messed with the dishwasher! The next day HSA phoned to say they spoke with Southeast Appliance and they are denying our claim and there is no refund on the $100. Shortly after moving in we were broken into and robbed, 2 weeks later we get robbed again by this company and HSA.

Have had HSA for 4 years and they have been decent. I will not be renewing this year as I am now going on 8 days without hot water. Might be the contractors fault, but they are the ones that picked them.

This is the WORST company I have ever dealt with. Contractors are uneducated or ill-equipped to diagnose the issue properly. They send multiple people to attempt to fix an issue but the issue is not truly fixed! When you try to call them, you better clear your schedule because you will be on hold for the rest of your god given life! The contracts also never answer and you get a message that the mailboxes are full so you can't leave a message. I have had two service calls with them and this is the EXACT same experience both times. DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY!! -1000 STARS

Too many red flags with this company. I should have known this is a horrible company. First, up date your site so that customers can chat online with customer service or give an option to send an email. I should have known to stay away. I renewed my contract because it was the same company that the seller had attached when I brought the house. But guess what, I will not be renewing. An hour wait, just to request to have the suggested company to be removed from my profile because they provided bad customer service is ridiculous on both companies. And to not have specific instructions when calling in. How are these butt holes still in business? These people are the worst!

My warranty covered leaking pipes. So when I realized a pipe was leaking when I turned on my outside faucet I submitted an HSA online request to have it repaired and paid the $75 over the phone for the request. The plumber came, fixed the leaking pipe then called HSA, they denied the request because that particular pipe in the house is not covered. The plumber was surprised as I considering it says on my contract and when I signed up over the phone nearly a year ago that leaking pipes are covered. This is fraud. So, basically I was stuck with a $253 bill from the plumber in addition to the hundreds of dollars I have paid to HSA for nothing and I am now canceling my policy with HSA.

Do not purchase a contract with this company. You are unable to reach a customer service person by phone on weekends, holidays or evenings. They want you to do everything by computer. What this means is that in an emergency situation when waiting around is not an option, you need to call your own repair person. That also means, they will not reimburse you for your costs. Do NOT waste your money on a contract with them.

Had a problem with drain valve in the jacuzzi. Called HSA, paid $75 service fee for a plumber to come and check it. There's dozens of plumbers in our area. HSA sent one from 40 miles away(?). Plumber checked with HSA- NOT COVERED. I called HSA and ask why did I pay $75 to be told "not covered"? When I said cancel my policy, they agreed to refund the $75. Should have cancelled the worthless policy.

I had a slow leak in a refrigerator that caused about $10,000 in damage. Every time it was plugged back in there was a pool of water. I had to move it to the garage. Floors had to be torn up, subflooring removed due to mold in half my kitchen. HSA would not come because I refused to put a leaking frig back where I just paid to dry out the flooring and remove mold.

I leave a ton of reviews on Google and it's difficult for me to leave less than 4 star review which makes this 1 star review especially important. (side note: I noticed this company disabled their Google Reviews and for obvious reasons...) I don't believe I've found a bigger waste of money when it comes to home ownership than HSA Home Warranty. I've paid the service fee twice to have an electrician and a plumber come out to fix problems, both of which did nothing more than tell me "yep it's not working." Oh, you want them to actually fix the issue? That's not covered in the warranty. Literally one of the issues was an electric outlet that was showing as an open neutral. They opened... Read More
