Our Overall Rating: 1.1 / 5 (Poor)

HSA Home Warranty policies cover the warranty industry's standard list of appliances and home systems. Policies are available on an annual basis. Once you pay your premium, your policy is in full effect, with no waiting period or home inspection required. Unfortunately, the company doesn't provide a lot of specifics on the most important aspects of a home warranty policy on its website. They do not describe the variety of plans they offer, the cost of those plans, the benefit limits of their policies, or the deductibles associated with making a claim. HSA may have innovative policies, low deductibles and plan prices, great service partners, or a host of other benefits. You have to request a quote to find out.

Speaking of requesting a quote, we also have some concerns about their privacy policy. Once you submit your information to HSA —which you must do to get a quote—the company reserves the right to share your data with marketing affiliates, real estate companies, and other entities with which you might prefer not to share your information.

Contract & Price - 3 / 5

HSA's starting price of $589 for a 12-month contract, makes them the most expensive base-level option on the market. While an exact quote can be generated via an online calculator, we strongly recommend that potential policyholders thoroughly read all the fine print. Once a policy has been activated it is irreversible, since HSA does not offer any sort of cancellation or money-back policies.

Cancellation Policy

The warranty is non-cancelable by either party except for the following: A. The contract fees are not paid. B. Fraud or misrepresentation of facts material to the issuance of this contract. C. If the contract provides coverage for the seller during the listing period and the listing is withdrawn or expires. Should the contract be cancelable under the laws of the state where the contract holder resides, an allowable administrative fee will be charged upon cancellation. HSA may, at its option, decline to issue any renewal or cancel any contract, if the contract fees are not paid within 10 days of the due date.

With their claim of “the nation’s largest network of professional contractors”, HSA aims to provide quick, efficient service. Their service fees range between $75-$100, with no waiting period. Their 30-day recall period, as well as not requiring maintenance records, reflect the company’s wish to make their services easily accessible. Under certain circumstances, HSA’s 24/7 claims department may approve the use of a contractor that operates outside of their network.

Do not ever, EVER sign up for this "home warranty". They will take your money and run. Rude, unprofessional contractors AND customer service. Let's just put it this way-my AC stopped working in the dead of summer. The contractor from Bell Cow DIDN'T EVEN GO ON THE ROOF TO LOOK AT THE UNIT (I live in a condo downtown). I 100% believe he didn't go up there because it was an inconvenience to himself. So instead, he found a wire that was "burning" in my furnace, replaced it, and said the AC was fixed. 10 min later, after running the AC, the air was still warm. Called the guy and told him it wasn't working and he said "call back in the morning if it's still not working". Like what????... Read More

HSA has to be one of the worst companies on the planet. I wish I could give negative stars!! Like so many others have commented, they sent out a service company to look at our dryer which was putting out a gas odor onto our clothes. The service company stated, in writing, that it could not be fixed and needed to be replaced. HOURS on the phone with "customer service" who don't care AT ALL, can barely speak English, and disconnect you when you ask for a supervisor later. I was literally told to "disregard the smell" WHAT?? This is after they lied and said that the service company stated that. Their solution was to keep using a dryer that is leaking gas into my home and onto my clothes.... Read More

I could not be more disappointed with HSA's service. We submitted a claim when our dishwasher went out on May 7 and today, June 28, we finally have a new dishwasher installed. This after 7 separate contractor visits to our house because HSA wouldn't accept the first contractor's diagnosis that the dishwasher was indeed un-fixable. Instead, HSA sent contractors back and forth to our house with different replacement parts in multiple failed attempts to fix it. Almost TWO MONTHS later, they finally agreed to simply purchase a new dishwasher for us. Upon delivery of the new washer (by Home Depot's delivery service, Linn Star) it was determined that due to a company policy, they could not... Read More

Absolutely worthless policy. Our warranty came with the purchase of our home, otherwise I would have just canceled the policy. I'm actually looking forward to the policy expiration date. Every single claim that I have filed - waiting on the phone for 45 minutes plus just to get someone to talk to, contractors that don't show up for 3 weeks on a roof leak, basement leak was labeled as a roof leak and when I called to correct it they charged me an additional service fee to transfer it to a plumbing leak. Customer service is a joke - you will get a different answer every time you call.

Seems that they do NOT want to pay for warranty claims! We recently purchased a house with a pool and had the warranty on the house with the pool also included. We had a salt cell go out, after being in the house a week. They charged $75.00 to have a pool company come out and look at it. He recommended a new salt cell, since he could not clean that one (plus our main pool guy said it needed replaced also!) They DENIED the claim for a new cell, saying "that is a maintenance or cleaning system and is NOT covered under e-17 of your contract"! Never got a contract! Need the cell to create salt for the pool and it is NOT a maintenance item. This creates chlorine for the pool and is a... Read More

Do Not Open a policy with this company. They send you contract information for all the great things that are covered then when something breaks, charge you that $100 deductible only for their select list of unknown contractors to come into your home for a few minutes and find a way for the issue to be bad install or tampering and then they refuse to cover. Every time, even though they required a copy of your home inspection which showed no prior inspection problems. And then, when you try to cancel your policy, they give the run around, refuse to talk to you, or refuse to cancel. Its your money, spend it in a better place, and go with a local warranty company with reps who are respectful... Read More

I called because I had someone rekey my house on the second day I moved in and I didn't get my home warranty information in the mail until three weeks after I moved in. I wanted to be reimbursed the difference for having it rekeyed myself since they covered rekeying a house. The customer service agent was ridiculous. Could not tell me anything, didn't seem to have a clue to what the company did and kept repeating the same questions for 20 minutes only to tell me she didn't know how to help me and there would be a follow up email and then I was to call back. It's a ridiculous company with terrible customer service.

Just walk away. Do yourself a favor and don't bother. Utterly useless. Most frustrating company I have ever dealt with and I'm a Comcast customer.

We contacted HSA at the end of July 2018 to report our septic system stopped working. This is covered in our agreement contract. HSA sent a contractor for diagnostics and repair. Diagnostics is covered under our agreement which specifically states “access, diagnosis, repair and/or replacement” are all covered. The HSA contractor replaced the pump but did not check adequate voltage was going to the pump. The pump sustained significant damage. Besides the $560 we paid to HSA, we also had to pay the HSA contractor about $2,000. Since the HSA contractor did not fix the issue and ruined a new pump, we had to pay another $2,000 to hire a different plumbing company to diagnose and fix the... Read More

Moved into a new home a month ago that included a HSA home warranty. Woke up 5-10-2019 to a basement full of water. Our first call was to HSA who instructed us to call Barker Services. To their credit, they came down in a timely manner. Perhaps, we were naïve, but since we paid them $75 for their service, we expected an outcome that would tell us from where the water was coming. Instead, he centered his investigation on our sub-pumps, which again to his credit, he rightly determined were working. Of course, that leaves us with a sizeable financial loss, an insurance decline, and most disappointing of all, no answer to the “flood.” Strangely enough, the water flow has stopped. The...
