Overall Rating: 1.1 / 5 (Poor)

HSA Home Warranty policies cover the warranty industry's standard list of appliances and home systems. Policies are available on an annual basis. Once you pay your premium, your policy is in full effect, with no waiting period or home inspection required. Unfortunately, the company doesn't provide a lot of specifics on the most important aspects of a home warranty policy on its website. They do not describe the variety of plans they offer, the cost of those plans, the benefit limits of their policies, or the deductibles associated with making a claim. HSA may have innovative policies, low deductibles and plan prices, great service partners, or a host of other benefits. You have to request a quote to find out.

Speaking of requesting a quote, we also have some concerns about their privacy policy. Once you submit your information to HSA —which you must do to get a quote—the company reserves the right to share your data with marketing affiliates, real estate companies, and other entities with which you might prefer not to share your information.

Contract & Price - 3 / 5

HSA's starting price of $589 for a 12-month contract, makes them the most expensive base-level option on the market. While an exact quote can be generated via an online calculator, we strongly recommend that potential policyholders thoroughly read all the fine print. Once a policy has been activated it is irreversible, since HSA does not offer any sort of cancellation or money-back policies.

HSA provides a sample contract for potential customers on its website: HSA Sample Contract

Cancellation Policy

The warranty is non-cancelable by either party except for the following: A. The contract fees are not paid. B. Fraud or misrepresentation of facts material to the issuance of this contract. C. If the contract provides coverage for the seller during the listing period and the listing is withdrawn or expires. Should the contract be cancelable under the laws of the state where the contract holder resides, an allowable administrative fee will be charged upon cancellation. HSA may, at its option, decline to issue any renewal or cancel any contract, if the contract fees are not paid within 10 days of the due date.

Claims Processing - 2.5 / 5

With their claim of “the nation’s largest network of professional contractors”, HSA aims to provide quick, efficient service. Their service fees range between $75-$100, with no waiting period. Their 30-day recall period, as well as not requiring maintenance records, reflect the company’s wish to make their services easily accessible. Under certain circumstances, HSA’s 24/7 claims department may approve the use of a contractor that operates outside of their network.

This company is awful to work with. Probably the worst customer service I've experienced. I found myself wanting to pay full price for repairs instead of try and go through them.

Terrible at everything. Plumbers couldn't fix a simple leak in the toilet tank. Two months, still waiting for a part that I can get from home depot. Don't waste your money. Useless.

Run dont walk from this company. They sell you on the sense of security when you buy your new home. They will not agree to replace the very item that they warranty. They consider a 80 gallon water heater as a commercial water heater and will not warranty it. You wont find that in your contract. RUN RUN RUN RUN and dont look back.

We were sold an increased package than what came with our home. We first called on our air conditioner that was working but was leaking and creating a small flood between our furnace and the drain. They came out and ended up breaking the unit. It was then going to cost us over 2000 to fix. We worked with the company and only had to pay an additional 300 which I still dont believe I should have paid due to it working before they came out to service the leak. Which even after replacing STILL LEAKED. As of October we called for our refrigerator. It is leaking into the crisper drawers and freezing to the point you cannot open the drawers. The first technician they assigned came out a total of... Read More

It's the middle of winter in Iowa and my water heater hasn't been working for a week and a half. The plumber came over 2 days after I made my claim, said they'd overnight a part. They didn't order the part until the next day. My wife stayed home from work 2 days in a row waiting for the part. The plumber installed it that day but it didn't fix the issue. He came over 4 more times over the weekend trying to creatively "fix" the issue. He took out the ignition button and left the wire dangling. I brought this all to HSA's attention and they still wouldn't replace the water heater. They expected me to let that guy back into my home to try some more. Needless to say I had to replace the water... Read More

Deceptive practice - so HSA has been repairing a wall heater for a 1000 sq. ft room since i purchased my home r 5 years and now that the contractor says no more repairs will help it needs to be replaced, HSA is trying to say that this is not covered item. Hard to make me understand this since they have covered it for 5 years and it is listed as a coverable item on the contract. This has been going on since 12/9 and it is now 12/22 and 28 degrees. They just want to call another contractor out to tell them the same thing and i have had to force them to escalate it internally. Now need to wait another 24-48 hours for this escalation to occur. If i pay for replacement myself they will not... Read More

I recommend you steer clear of HSA's deceptive practices, and failure to follow through at every conceivable turn. I've had two issues come up during my 4 year relationship with them, and have been ignored and stalled for weeks both times, only to find out there is some excuse not to cover the claim after all that waiting... My family was left without power in December's freezing weather for 3 weeks, calling both them and the contractor daily, only to told I'd have to pay for EVERYTHING out of pocket due to "extenuating circumstances". PLEASE steer clear of this sham of a home coverage company, and save yourself the stress, heartache, and frustration of paying $72 a month, to never be... Read More

Our heater exchange went out on our gas furnace. The part is no longer made, the factory will have to make one. This process is 2 to 4 months. I live in Ohio with nights going into the 20's. HSA refuses to replace our furnace regardless of the contractors recommendation. Every time I call them they lie, the lies have stacked up to an overload pile of crap.

You get promised call-backs, and nobody calls. Site visits, and nobody shows. Service appointments, and nobody comes. This isn't even a knock on the budget vendors they chose... trying to work with HSA itself is a disaster. It takes multiple calls to get even simple issues addressed. In short, working with this company is a non-stop headache. Save yourself the pain and look elsewhere.

This might be the worst Warrant company on the planet. Spent 30 days with no hot water heater and no one handling the problem so I ended up doing it myself. Now AC went out, contractor came mentioned I need a new AC compressor. I see my case was closed but it's not fixed. I guess we pay our $100 service call and no one takes care of the issues. Looks like I am on my own again.
