Overall Rating: 4.4 / 5 (Excellent)

Fetch ranks highly with us chiefly because of the comprehensiveness of coverage, including coverage for the entire sick visit including exam fees, and flexibility in customizing deductibles, reimbursement rates, and maximum annual payouts. In light of this, the customer has a lot of leeway to mix and match to get the right premiums for their individual pet and financial situation.

Fetch Coverage

Coverage - 5 / 5

Fetch offers the most extensive coverage in comparison to the other companies we rate. They handle all new accidents and illnesses without restrictions for hereditary or congenital conditions, as well as medications, advanced testing, hospital stays, rehabilitative care, and holistic therapies.

Fetch provides coverage for behavioral treatments on all policies, including anxiety disorders such as travel and separation anxiety, noise phobia, and house soiling. Many other providers require a rider or don’t cover behavioral treatments at all.

Also, all non-routine veterinary exam fees are covered in all plans, including at emergency & specialist vets. While some providers don’t cover the cost of the exam, Fetch does, saving pet parents between $50-$250 per visit on average (with other providers, that’s the equivalent of an additional deductible you must meet on every veterinary visit).

Fetch has the most comprehensive coverage of dental injury and treatment of periodontal disease. Fetch’s comprehensive dental coverage protects against multiple accidents and injuries including broken teeth, periodontal disease, extractions and advanced dental treatments such as root canal therapy for every tooth in the mouth, not just the canines like some other providers.

Finally, Fetch will cover curable pre-existing conditions after the 365 day exclusionary period after your policy becomes active. The company also covers most bilateral conditions when one side is considered to be pre-existing, which is something many other providers won't do.

This can be advantageous if you research the types and costs of conditions your particular breed is likely to face, and combine it with the cost of treatment considering your area.

Reimbursement & Deductibles

Reimbursement - 5 / 5

Like all the leading pet insurance policies today, Fetch will pay a predetermined percentage of your actual veterinarian bill after you have met your deductible.

The reimbursement rates you can choose from are 70%, 80%, and 90%.

Deductibles - 5 / 5

Cat owners can select a deductible of $250, $300, or $400, while dog owners can select a deductible of $300, $500, or $700.

If you choose a higher end deductible, it is going to translate into lower monthly premiums. Fetch operates on an annual deductible, which is ideal as you will only have to meet the one deductible regardless of incidences.

Claims & Service

Extras - 4.5 / 5

Fetch is one of the only pet insurance companies to specifically state a claims payout timeframe in its terms and conditions, 30 days. However, most are reimbursed in 5-7 business days after submission of a completed claim, especially when submitted via the Fetch App or online.

To file a claim, you need two documents:
● A finalized invoice from your vet. Your invoice should clearly show what your pet was treated for, how much you were charged and it has to be paid in full.
● Detailed medical records from your pet’s most recent checkup. Medical records show us your pet’s medical history and let us see what we can cover, which allows us to process your claim quickly.

One thing to note: claims have to be filed within 90 days of treatment. If a claim is submitted more than 90 days after the date on the invoice, it won’t be covered.

Fetch also gives you the flexibility of submitting this information through its free app for Android and iPhone. You can also use their online portal on your phone or computer. This lets you file claims instantly and without messy paperwork 24/7.

Fetch also features the "Telehealth" service. This facility provides coverage for telephone consultations for an immediate lifesaving emergency.

I agree with previous reviewers who stated that Petplan used to offer good insurance at a reasonable price and with decent coverage. No longer. As others have mentioned, the company has recently changed their underwriter; the result is that they are now offering policies with exorbitant rates and minimal coverage. I have been with Petplan for eight years and have requested non-renewal for the next year. My ten-year-old greyhound, George, and I will now go it alone. If you are considering this company, one word of advice: Don't.

I have been paying for pet plan dog insurance for 2 dogs for 6 years with 2 small claims. Now that my oldest dog is 11 years old, petplan has sent me a notice of nonrenewel for my oldest dog. I have had autopay through my credit card for approximately 6 years. They have offered me what they consider is a comparable plan which will cost me $263.09 a quarter for my older dog instead of the $148.28 that I am paying now. I resorted to pet insurance after my lab died from cancer in 2010 and my pet bill was over $5000. I would have been so much better off saving the money I spent for premiums to pet plan rather than paying pet plan for them to cancel when I will probably start needed the... Read More

I have been with petplan since 2006. At first, I was highly satisfied. They sent magazines, treats for Christmas and were helpful, compassionate and understanding. They seem to have grown in size which may be causing an increase in customer dissatisfaction. Their annual premiums tend to sky rocket each year. (Last year, I paid $1071 dollars for one of my dogs and this year, his premium will be $1184). It is also rather tedious when dealing with claims. In addition, it seems to take a very long time for the company to process a claim. On a positive note, they do cover a portion of prescriptions.

Horrible time trying to process a claim for inspiratory stridor. 5 yr Shih Tzu who needed a bronchscopy, which was theraputic in dilating her airway. Claims representative Jessica Kramer kept delaying paying the claim. I had sent email after email and kept the email history. She had all the medical from the Bronchoscopy. The only issue for this dog over the years was 1 ear infection. She is seen by a mobile clinic. The receipts is the medical record. They have the brief wellness exam and the vaccinations all listed. These exams were done by licensed vet with a great reputation. She tried to say that wasn't enough of a record. If the dog is healthy and has annual wellness exams... Read More

Our 18 old month chocolate lab Jake started limping, took him to vet ( x-rays) he was diagnosed with LGW - lameness. Vet sent pre-approval form to Petplan, was accepted. Jake had surgery on 5-11 at local vets office. Bill came to $4000, received a check from Petplan on 05-26 for $3200. Couldn't be happier with Petplan no hassle prompt payment. Highly recommended.

In choosing a pet insurance plan for my miniature dachshund I did a lot of research that took me a long time to do. I had to be certain because we love our little one very much. I found that PetPlan offers the most services at the lowest cost. I'm paying $30 per month where other places want $70 for far less coverage. PetPlan also has a lost pet service that I did utilize one time. My dog was found. PetPlan is not like one of those huge companies where there is no customer service. I have had no trouble with them and in fact they have contacted me when they did not have to. I am very happy with their services.

The many positive reviews must be fake. I'm so fed-up with this company I can't even begin to tell my story. Short story, 4 cats, hundreds in premium a month, small claim denied by multiplying single illness into multiples and deducting multiple deductibles, thereby getting out of paying anything. Coldest phone conversation with stooges, never able to speak to adjusters. Over promise and no deliver. You've been warned, do NOT sign up. You're better off putting the money into a secure bank account and paying your own claims when they come up. Trust me, it's cheaper than this scam operation.

PETPLAN are typical ripoff artists. Enrolled my cat 10/14, $24.80 every month (of course ON TIME every month) is deducted from my checking account. Had mouth surgery 12/15 that cost over $1300, but since I also pay $30/month in Banfields (my Vet that I pay) “Wellness” plan, the amount was reduced to $750. After, twice, hearing they needed more notes and info from Banfield (red flag right there) for 2 and a half months, they finally said they refuse to cover it because he had a “preexisting condition” that, obviously, was never revealed to me. Hope your pet gets sick early in the month, because once they pay a few quota claims all the rest are DENIED. Plus the submit fake, positive reviews... Read More

I got PetPlan for a newly adopted dog. The first year I had him, he came down with both Lyme's disease and Anaplasmosis another tick-borne disease. We ran up about $1,500 in bills fighting both. Long story short, PetPlan wants you to have 12 months of tick preventative receipts for your dog. If you haven't had your dog, you will need to dig up a health certificate. Even then they throw continuous roadblocks up to block your getting any reimbursement for your pet's illness. I eventually gave up - I was spending an equal amount of time on the phone that I spent getting my pup better. The cherry on top of the icing was when I did some research on Anaplasmosis and it is transferred from the... Read More
