Overall Rating: 4.4 / 5 (Excellent)

Fetch ranks highly with us chiefly because of the comprehensiveness of coverage, including coverage for the entire sick visit including exam fees, and flexibility in customizing deductibles, reimbursement rates, and maximum annual payouts. In light of this, the customer has a lot of leeway to mix and match to get the right premiums for their individual pet and financial situation.

Fetch Coverage

Coverage - 5 / 5

Fetch offers the most extensive coverage in comparison to the other companies we rate. They handle all new accidents and illnesses without restrictions for hereditary or congenital conditions, as well as medications, advanced testing, hospital stays, rehabilitative care, and holistic therapies.

Fetch provides coverage for behavioral treatments on all policies, including anxiety disorders such as travel and separation anxiety, noise phobia, and house soiling. Many other providers require a rider or don’t cover behavioral treatments at all.

Also, all non-routine veterinary exam fees are covered in all plans, including at emergency & specialist vets. While some providers don’t cover the cost of the exam, Fetch does, saving pet parents between $50-$250 per visit on average (with other providers, that’s the equivalent of an additional deductible you must meet on every veterinary visit).

Fetch has the most comprehensive coverage of dental injury and treatment of periodontal disease. Fetch’s comprehensive dental coverage protects against multiple accidents and injuries including broken teeth, periodontal disease, extractions and advanced dental treatments such as root canal therapy for every tooth in the mouth, not just the canines like some other providers.

Finally, Fetch will cover curable pre-existing conditions after the 365 day exclusionary period after your policy becomes active. The company also covers most bilateral conditions when one side is considered to be pre-existing, which is something many other providers won't do.

This can be advantageous if you research the types and costs of conditions your particular breed is likely to face, and combine it with the cost of treatment considering your area.

Reimbursement & Deductibles

Reimbursement - 5 / 5

Like all the leading pet insurance policies today, Fetch will pay a predetermined percentage of your actual veterinarian bill after you have met your deductible.

The reimbursement rates you can choose from are 70%, 80%, and 90%.

Deductibles - 5 / 5

Cat owners can select a deductible of $250, $300, or $400, while dog owners can select a deductible of $300, $500, or $700.

If you choose a higher end deductible, it is going to translate into lower monthly premiums. Fetch operates on an annual deductible, which is ideal as you will only have to meet the one deductible regardless of incidences.

Claims & Service

Extras - 4.5 / 5

Fetch is one of the only pet insurance companies to specifically state a claims payout timeframe in its terms and conditions, 30 days. However, most are reimbursed in 5-7 business days after submission of a completed claim, especially when submitted via the Fetch App or online.

To file a claim, you need two documents:
● A finalized invoice from your vet. Your invoice should clearly show what your pet was treated for, how much you were charged and it has to be paid in full.
● Detailed medical records from your pet’s most recent checkup. Medical records show us your pet’s medical history and let us see what we can cover, which allows us to process your claim quickly.

One thing to note: claims have to be filed within 90 days of treatment. If a claim is submitted more than 90 days after the date on the invoice, it won’t be covered.

Fetch also gives you the flexibility of submitting this information through its free app for Android and iPhone. You can also use their online portal on your phone or computer. This lets you file claims instantly and without messy paperwork 24/7.

Fetch also features the "Telehealth" service. This facility provides coverage for telephone consultations for an immediate lifesaving emergency.

Petplan has been nothing short of unprofessional and frustrating to deal with. My dog has been diagnosed with chondrosarcoma and pet plan refused to cover her treatments at first saying it was a "Preexisiting condition" when it was not. My vets and I were able to appeal this, but when it came time to me to submit our claims, they kept requesting for official documents, when my vet (which deals with many other insurance companies) and myself submitted all of our available documentation. The man I spoke with just kept responding with "I don't know" and when I asked if I could speak with someone who did know, he told me he could not refer me to the claims department, although the only... I have been a Pet Plan Customer since 2009. I have been very pleased with the plans, cost of premiums, and benefits. Claims always paid as explained. HOWEVER, today I received notice that the company changed underwriters. My 13 year old dog's premium went from from $669 annual cost in 2016 to $1217 in 2017 for a similar plan. It basically doubled! This has never happened to my premiums and I have insured 3 dogs with this company; always paying my premiums and submitting vet bills as instructed. It is not because of her age, I called. They claimed it was the new underwriter and the best they could do without forcing pets into a situation with pre-existing conditions with the new... Read More

My husband and I have been nothing but impressed with PetPlan and the security it offers for us and our two dogs. Every claim we have filed that is eligible has been paid within 3 weeks of submitting. In addition, every employee we have emailed or spoken with over the phone has seemed genuinely interested in our dogs' well being. Despite the plan rates going up this year, we will continue with Pet Plan because we know that we can rely on them.

Petplan has always been extremely efficient to deal with my claims. I never suspected they will try to decrease the amounts due for any reason other than the exceptions listed clearly in their contract, all the contrary. If I give 4 instead of 5, it is because of the cost of the insurance but I suppose it is in the line of other insurances. I would like they take in consideration old customers instead of increasing annual premiums as our pets age.

we have had petplan for years. We have always been treated with respect and our vet bills get paid. If it werent for petplan we wouldn't be able to keep one of our dogs who has been very ill. I would guess over the years they have put over 35K into our labrador with degenerative disk disease, hip dysplasia, teeth problems( root canals/extractions) and autoimmune issues.

It is because of the excellent care that we were able to provide our golden that he survived three years with cancer. They were good years, too! We couldn't have done all we did without Pet Plan. Max saw on oncologist; he needed an internist, and towards the end, a neurologist. We worked with an integrative vet all three years as well. The combination of Western and Eastern medicine is why I believe he outlived the average lifespan for this type of cancer by an additional year! For that we are very grateful. We never had to worry about funds. We knew PetPlan would be there to reimburse us for the treatments we did.. After losing one golden at 5 yrs old (all was well at 10 am &... Read More

My fur-baby started out on VPI. I did not love VPI because reimbursement at that time (I don't know if it's still true) was based on what they thought I should have been charged, not what I was actually charged. And I always got charged a LOT more than VPI thought I should, and I was the one who ate the difference. So when Buffy was around 2 or 3 we switched to PetPlan. She's 9 now. We've been through eating clothing, a feather pillow, and more UTI's than you'd believe. And we've added 10 year old Ollie to the mix. Ollie has brought REAL challenges. Fanconi syndrome, an ear hematoma which put him in a cone of shame, and while in the cone of shame he was SO determined to scratch... Read More

I have had PetPlan now for my dog Sascha(female pug) for 5years. They are great when it comes to service - always easy to get someone on the phone, also helpful and courteous. The one thing which is pushing them back from being excellent instead of very good is - the costs. Every year for the last 3 years the premium has gone up by 20-25% which is very steep and IMO cannot be explained by inflation or any other means. I love PetPlan, so I really hope they fix the costs part, as it is deterrent for people to stick around.

Pet plan is the best insurance company! Because of them I am able to provide my dog with cancer treatment. It's because of pet plan that my dog has gone to live past the 3 months they gave him. I am forever grateful to them. I have to say, it is rare to actually like your insurance company. They have covered 80% of all of my dog's radiation and chemo testament, as well as his holistic vet and nutritionist consult with no hassle. They are truly the best!
