Overall Rating: 4.4 / 5 (Excellent)

Fetch ranks highly with us chiefly because of the comprehensiveness of coverage, including coverage for the entire sick visit including exam fees, and flexibility in customizing deductibles, reimbursement rates, and maximum annual payouts. In light of this, the customer has a lot of leeway to mix and match to get the right premiums for their individual pet and financial situation.

Fetch Coverage

Coverage - 5 / 5

Fetch offers the most extensive coverage in comparison to the other companies we rate. They handle all new accidents and illnesses without restrictions for hereditary or congenital conditions, as well as medications, advanced testing, hospital stays, rehabilitative care, and holistic therapies.

Fetch provides coverage for behavioral treatments on all policies, including anxiety disorders such as travel and separation anxiety, noise phobia, and house soiling. Many other providers require a rider or don’t cover behavioral treatments at all.

Also, all non-routine veterinary exam fees are covered in all plans, including at emergency & specialist vets. While some providers don’t cover the cost of the exam, Fetch does, saving pet parents between $50-$250 per visit on average (with other providers, that’s the equivalent of an additional deductible you must meet on every veterinary visit).

Fetch has the most comprehensive coverage of dental injury and treatment of periodontal disease. Fetch’s comprehensive dental coverage protects against multiple accidents and injuries including broken teeth, periodontal disease, extractions and advanced dental treatments such as root canal therapy for every tooth in the mouth, not just the canines like some other providers.

Finally, Fetch will cover curable pre-existing conditions after the 365 day exclusionary period after your policy becomes active. The company also covers most bilateral conditions when one side is considered to be pre-existing, which is something many other providers won't do.

This can be advantageous if you research the types and costs of conditions your particular breed is likely to face, and combine it with the cost of treatment considering your area.

Reimbursement & Deductibles

Reimbursement - 5 / 5

Like all the leading pet insurance policies today, Fetch will pay a predetermined percentage of your actual veterinarian bill after you have met your deductible.

The reimbursement rates you can choose from are 70%, 80%, and 90%.

Deductibles - 5 / 5

Cat owners can select a deductible of $250, $300, or $400, while dog owners can select a deductible of $300, $500, or $700.

If you choose a higher end deductible, it is going to translate into lower monthly premiums. Fetch operates on an annual deductible, which is ideal as you will only have to meet the one deductible regardless of incidences.

Claims & Service

Extras - 4.5 / 5

Fetch is one of the only pet insurance companies to specifically state a claims payout timeframe in its terms and conditions, 30 days. However, most are reimbursed in 5-7 business days after submission of a completed claim, especially when submitted via the Fetch App or online.

To file a claim, you need two documents:
● A finalized invoice from your vet. Your invoice should clearly show what your pet was treated for, how much you were charged and it has to be paid in full.
● Detailed medical records from your pet’s most recent checkup. Medical records show us your pet’s medical history and let us see what we can cover, which allows us to process your claim quickly.

One thing to note: claims have to be filed within 90 days of treatment. If a claim is submitted more than 90 days after the date on the invoice, it won’t be covered.

Fetch also gives you the flexibility of submitting this information through its free app for Android and iPhone. You can also use their online portal on your phone or computer. This lets you file claims instantly and without messy paperwork 24/7.

Fetch also features the "Telehealth" service. This facility provides coverage for telephone consultations for an immediate lifesaving emergency.

Sammy, our rescue pit bull, had tumors on three different areas of his body. Pet Plan worked efficiently over the New Years Eve holiday to process the pre-authorization request I submitted. Our vet recommended cleaning his teeth while he was under general anesthesia for the surgery and that was not covered under Sammy's policy. However, after his surgery, Pet Plan quickly sent us a check for $1,341.59 on our total incurred costs of $1,662.78. I have had three dogs on Pet Plan (one has passed away) and I have always been happy with their fairness and efficiency. It is so easy to call them and talk to a real person who is able to answer any questions on the spot. I recommend Pet Plan to all... Read More

I purchased PetPlan in March of 2015 when Judah was three months old. In January 2016 it became apparent that Judah had developed juvenile cataracts. We saw dog ophthalmologist. She watched both his eyes for eleven months. It became apparent in November 2016 that his left eye was going blind and wouldn't recover. So on November 10 Judah had cataract surgery on that left eye. PetPlan had me gather all of his veterinary history and all the bills and diagnosis for this surgery. Judah is a two year old Australian Labradoodle. I submitted all these bills. They paid for the eye surgery. That bill was 2600 and change. It only took three weeks for them to process my request. I'm so... Read More

My yorkie-poo required extensive dental surgery due to genetic gum disease. He had 14 teeth pulled and had a tumor removed & biopsied. While I pay what I consider a lot of money for health insurance, I am relieved when something like this past episode happens, because I know that Scully will be covered and I don't have to worry about both Scully and the finances associated with keeping him healthy. Most of us feel that our pets are a part of our family and would do just about anything to keep them well and happy. We all hope that nothing ever happens to our pets, but when something does, it's a relief to know that we have insurance to help pay the expense of necessary procedures.

My cat had to have emergency surgery last month, and it ended up costing me $6000. It only took Petplan a month to cover 80% of the costs of her hospitalization, surgery, and medication. I'm so relieved!

We CANNOT say enough good things about Pet Plan. Our Old English Sheepdog, Dawkins, has, despite some incredible care, battled both hip dysplasia (age 6) and now an aggressive cancer (age 8). We have the 80%/$200 deductible plan and it has been worth EVERY SINGLE PENNY. Not only does PetPlan cover hereditary diseases AND cancer (so long as you have the plan before diagnosis - which makes sense!), but they make it SO EASY to use. I literally have NEVER had to check on reimbursement checks or fight b/c I "thought something was covered." They have covered everything from laser therapy, to adequan injections, to scans, chemo and even supplements/holistic treatments while battling cancer.... Read More

Pet Plan is always very quick and efficient to process claims. Recently, we were hit with approximately $3,500 in vet bills between the two dogs. Knowing that we would not have to wait long for reimbursement made paying those bills much less stressful. We received checks from Pet Plan within 15 days of filing the claims.

I have just purchased the pet plan insurance for my four month old Pomeranian just a few days ago. I have been reading reviews and noticed quite a few negative reviews. Many are under the impression that the deductible applies for each new condition. NOT TRUE please call them to discuss your concerns, because you do have a choice. I chose the yearly deductible and for me that suits my pocket book fairly. I recommend this insurance and will continue to give positive reviews and if ever necessary poor reviews if needed. I believe in fairness. Hoping to share my positive experiences.

Sad but True. This company changed carriers (underwriters) and send me a notice where I notice a much higher mo. rate plus a higher co-payment - they will cover 70% ( it was 80% before) after the first $500. deduct. Needless to say they did not do their research before selecting a new underwriter. Maybe they have taken their long time customers for granted but most of us keep up with our important expenses for our pets. I cannot longer recommend this company - as I often did in he past - to my friends with pets to insure. Fortunate that there are other Pet Insurance Co. that can take over with as good coverage as what used to be their better policies with a more realistic pricing.

Hi there, I'm very sorry to hear that you are upset with the underwriter changes. As our previous underwriter chose to leave the pet insurance industry, we were forced to find a new underwriter with fairly short notice, and I can assure you that we did very extensive research to find the best underwriter in the market. We were fortunate to find a new underwriter that was willing to accept all of our current policyholders, as well as, any pre-existing conditions. And you are correct in that our premiums have increased, but I want to make you aware of a few perks that have also come with the new plan: we are now able to offer an annual deductible, we are the one of the only pet insurance companies that covers vet exam fees and periodontal disease, and we have no upper age limits - just to name a few. The letter you received in the mail has a suggested plan for when you renew (which needs to be included for legal reasons)... But I'd like you to know that you are more than welcome to customize your plan so that it better suits your budget and lifestyle. Please send an email to socialmedia@gopetplan.com with your first & last name and your policy number so that I can better assist you. Thank you so much for your cooperation, Megan Christel, Community Manager

I have 2 dogs covered by Petplan and am thankful for their quick turnaround time with claims. I love being able to submit via the app, it is so easy. I am dissapointed in the new underwriting company, though i realize costs have gone up for everything. I also appreciate yhe monthly magazine and yearly calendar, how can my dogs be a part of that? Anyway, thank you Petplan, you make being a dog mom a litlle easier.
