HughesNet does provide a generous amount of data across its plans. The company practices a Fair Access Policy that regulates the amount of data usage for each customer. It limits the amount of data uploaded or downloaded with a one-month billing period. Customers who exceed this limit can experience a reduction in internet speed.

*** Speeds are not guaranteed. Monthly Data is the sum of the Anytime and Bonus Zone. Actual speeds during the Bonus Zone period will likely be lower than speeds indicated.

If you are reading this, do NOT get HughesNet unless you really liked dial up from 1999. This is the worst internet service I have ever had in the past 20 years. The only reason I got it, in the first place, DirecTV was offering it as a bundle package. I was told satellite service was the fastest available, wrong! I called within the first 30 days to cancel it and was told it would cost $400.00! Seriously, within the first 30 days, what kind of service is that? To watch one movie on Netflix it would take 4 hours of constant buffering. We could only use screen mirroring on our TV with our cell phones. Our family could not take it anymore, I called to cancel and had to scream at the... Read More

HughesNet is a horrible company. I've been with them since January, and it was the worst decision. They are slow, their customer service is horrible, and when they send technicians out, they never show up when they are supposed to. NEVER NEVER NEVER choose HughesNet.

My 85-year old father recently contacted Dish TV about getting a package deal for TV service and also internet (which they bundled through Hughes Net). A Dish representative came out and set up both the TV and the internet. He explained my father would have both; it was a 2 year contract and didn't explain that the internet plan was a 'Data' plan - mostly used with cell phones. Residential areas mainly need 'speed' plans due to different requirements. Computer internet usage in residential areas is often determined by Windows upgrading itself or security updates or even streaming on TVs. My dad uses internet for both his computer and TV (and even his house phone). They never said that... Read More

The only thing worse than Hughes net's internet service is their customer service. For months we upgraded our package and NEVER received the bandwidth that we paid for. Customer service had HUNG UP on us more than once. Stated that an internet provider doesn't have the ability to send an email (they must use their own service), and blamed our equipment as the reason our service was sub-par (four laptops, three tablets, three smart phones where all defective apparently). After paying over $170 per month for service that was slower than my cell data 4G connection, Hughes wanted to charge us anywhere between $300-$600 to terminated their service, the amount changed with every service rep... We recently had HughesNet internet and phone service installed at our home. We had been on DSL at about 6 mbs download speed with frequent outages. We signed up for speed of 25 mbs. The HughesNet speed is even slower than our old DSL. Very frustrating and now facing their very high discontinue charge.

I have the Gen 5. It is not fast. You have a choice of how much gyg-a-bites you want for what they call high speed. Once you use your gigs for the month the speed gets slower. You can buy more gigs if you want. Also, it goes out when it rains. The best kind of Internet is cable.
