Overall Rating: 4.6 / 5 (Excellent)

Choice Home Warranty offers a full array of home appliance and systems coverage at a competitive price. The company offers two plans for existing home owners —Basic and Total. In addition to a monthly premium, customers can expect to pay an $85 service fee each time they make a claim, which falls in low-to-mid range when compared to other home warranty companies.

You can submit a claim 24/7, including holidays, via phone, online, or app. The company utilizes proprietary technology to begin the dispatching process after a claim is filed. The company has recently updated their plans increasing coverage and has fewer limitations. Their plans and optional coverage can cover over 25 major systems and appliances.

Choice Home Warranty earns a B rating from the Better Business Bureau and has a positive rating on Trustpilot, but in this industry, negative customer reviews far outnumber positive ones.

Coverage Options - 4.5 / 5

Choice Home Warranty offers existing homeowners two plans, each of which cover a mix of systems and appliances. The primary difference between its Total plan and its Basic plan is that refrigerators, washers and dryers, and air conditioning systems are not included in the Basic Plan. Optional coverage for such items as pools and spas, well pumps, and septic systems is available for an additional fee. The company states that, in any case, its total liability for any single item is capped at $3000, but lower limits do apply to some covered items.

We requested a quote for a single family home of less than 5000 square feet in a small midwestern city. The premium for Choice Home Warranty's Basic was $47.85 per month and the premium for its Total pan was $54.95 per month. With the cost difference between the two plans being only about $7 per month, to our mind, the Total plan a better value overall because it includes coverage for three of the most common appliances: refrigerators, washers, and dryers. It also includes coverage for air conditioning systems.

The company's co-pay for a service call is $85, slightly less than most comparable companies. The co-pay may be reduced further with special discounts and promotions.

My five year old water heater had a tank failure three weeks ago. When i called Choice, i was told that the coverage did NOT include the tank, just the controls...i.e. the stuff that almost never fails. The net result was that I retained the tech (who was sent out by Choice to verify that the tank had failed) to go and get the new water heater and install same. Choice was of zero help in covering this issue. Their web site does NOT make this clear...in fact it SAYS that they cover the "water heater". Untrue

Horrible experience. Sorry ever got involved with Choice Home Warranty (CHW)! If you are reading this don't buy their warranty. Had warranty for 13 months and never filed a claim until 7/2016. Called CHW and filed a claim. Received email on repairman to contact for repair. Contacted repairman four times to get him out; to date has never showed up. CHW even set up one of the appointmments. Still don't have workable dishwasher so guess I can't get my dishwasher fixed unless I pay for myself. CHW is truly a waste of money.

I have had great experiences with Choice. They respond quickly and I don't have to be on hold for more than 5 min at the most unlike most warranty companies you are on eternally hold.

DO NOT even contact for information. After doing so, they will not leave me alone- more than 10 phone calls a day, often one right after another! Was seriously interested in this company and after speaking with a sales person, called back to ask about contractors in our area and the deductible and the call center person hung up on me! (I found out this might have been because their was a lawsuit with the state of NJ regarding their business practices). I, stupidly, was still considering them, but after all the multiple phone calls, decided against it. Now they WILL NOT leave me alone!

This is a fraudulent company. Their sales rep says "no home inspection is needed. We don't care how old your home or appliance is". The reason they don't care is they have no intention of paying. My dishwasher went out and they denied claim stating it was "preexisting". Any appliance that has problems could be labeled "preexisting". How many months do you have to have coverage before it's no longer "preexisting" ? Customer service is a joke. Hold times of over an hour almost every time I've called. I have been hung up on several times. I even sent proof that my home was covered with another company prior to CHW with no lapse in coverage. Doesn't matter. This company is a scam.

The Sales team and the Customer service team members are very courteous and highly professional. The claims department folks are outstanding even though because of the volume, are quite busy and one goes on a fairly long hold on the phone. The policy covers most things but not the ones that "go out due to wear and tare"....wish they would cover them too. We have CHW for two homes and have taken their economical three years warranty. Keep up with the excellent service and reputation. Babu

Switched to Choice and nothing but problems with first claim. Tech requested part for dryer or it could cause problem. Choice "refused" part and dryer had major issues. Choice has notes of request and warning, but refuse repairs. Call Choice to address, but placed on hold numerous times for over 30 minutes each time. Don't Buy Choice Home Warranty!

We have had a plumbing repair, HVAC repair, and stove repair in our first year of living in our new-to-us house, and Choice Home Warranty has come through every time, arranging for the repair and paying the bill every time. Our warranty was a very worthwhile investment!
