Overall Rating: 4.6 / 5 (Excellent)

Choice Home Warranty offers a full array of home appliance and systems coverage at a competitive price. The company offers two plans for existing home owners —Basic and Total. In addition to a monthly premium, customers can expect to pay an $85 service fee each time they make a claim, which falls in low-to-mid range when compared to other home warranty companies.

You can submit a claim 24/7, including holidays, via phone, online, or app. The company utilizes proprietary technology to begin the dispatching process after a claim is filed. The company has recently updated their plans increasing coverage and has fewer limitations. Their plans and optional coverage can cover over 25 major systems and appliances.

Choice Home Warranty earns a B rating from the Better Business Bureau and has a positive rating on Trustpilot, but in this industry, negative customer reviews far outnumber positive ones.

Coverage Options - 4.5 / 5

Choice Home Warranty offers existing homeowners two plans, each of which cover a mix of systems and appliances. The primary difference between its Total plan and its Basic plan is that refrigerators, washers and dryers, and air conditioning systems are not included in the Basic Plan. Optional coverage for such items as pools and spas, well pumps, and septic systems is available for an additional fee. The company states that, in any case, its total liability for any single item is capped at $3000, but lower limits do apply to some covered items.

We requested a quote for a single family home of less than 5000 square feet in a small midwestern city. The premium for Choice Home Warranty's Basic was $47.85 per month and the premium for its Total pan was $54.95 per month. With the cost difference between the two plans being only about $7 per month, to our mind, the Total plan a better value overall because it includes coverage for three of the most common appliances: refrigerators, washers, and dryers. It also includes coverage for air conditioning systems.

The company's co-pay for a service call is $85, slightly less than most comparable companies. The co-pay may be reduced further with special discounts and promotions.

I called to get information and was greeted by a fast-talking sales rep who refused to answer my questions or give his name while attempting to use pressure tactics to get me to purchase a home warranty. It felt like I was dealing with a sleazy used car salesman and I said as much on the phone. The underhanded tactics continued but I continued to ask for and expect clear answers. The salesman asked if I was serious about purchasing a home warranty today and I said that I was but that I was going to do my research first. He told me to call back when I was serious.about purchasing a home warranty. To imply that I am not serious because I choose to be informed shows a tremendous lack of... Read More

This company is very incompetent My renewal came up for July 4th so I thought I would give them one more year and try this out. First of all you cannot get a spring and fall AC check from them. Now due to the excessive heat and not having the spring check up my AC is not working right. House not cooling down. I call them 4 days ago and tell them I need service and as I did previously request my AC company who is the only company I have used in 30 years. They tell me they can not any long do this and I have to use one of their companies. Since I had already chosen to renew I tell them I no longer want to renew with them and to credit my card for the money they had already charged. I... Read More

The worst company ever. I had issues with my a.c. damper motor and the zone control board. It took 2 hours for Choice to attend my call. Their customer service sucks and once they did they told me that they wouldn't cover. Man, this is the worst company ever. I've heard there is nice companies out there and am trying to contact them. Choice doesn't even deserve 1 star.

My call was regarding my A/C and I submitted my request on line (much faster, no hold wait time on the phone) it was a Sunday afternoon and I had the automated services calling me back with in the hour and setting me up with the tech. Next day tech came assessed the problem and the repair was accepted and cleared to do the work by Choice Home warranty. Today is the next day and I am waiting for tech to come finish the job. I am very satisfied.

6/23/16: Just signed up with choice home warranty by phone. I did not realize and representative never disclosed the information of charging $ 60 service phone fee. I have sent a couple of emails about this issue without any response. I am currently on the phone now (6/24/16). I have been holding on the phone for 49 minutes now. Waiting for a supervisor that will probably never come after talking for a representative who tried to play dumb like that is there policy to charge customers without their knowledge or consent. It has been 52 minutes now still holding. Some customer services. I am giving a zero.

My Choice Home Warranty was effective on 4-7-2016 for $ 448.00. On 5-16-2016 the GE washing machine from 2012 developed a problem with poor water supply, so I filed a claim. The service person came the same day, collected $ 60 service fee, and promised the machine will be repaired by 5-18, he just need a replacement sensor. I have not heard from him, On 5-20 I called Choice, and was promised by 5-26 the part will arrive. Thank the promise dated changed to 5-31, 6-6, 6-16...On 6-20 I called again, was placed on hold 20 minutes than i was transferred several times with holding times 18, 20 then 30 minutes when I hang up. I called in to the sales department the answer was instantiations,... Read More
