Overall Rating: 4.6 / 5 (Excellent)

Choice Home Warranty offers a full array of home appliance and systems coverage at a competitive price. The company offers two plans for existing home owners —Basic and Total. In addition to a monthly premium, customers can expect to pay an $85 service fee each time they make a claim, which falls in low-to-mid range when compared to other home warranty companies.

You can submit a claim 24/7, including holidays, via phone, online, or app. The company utilizes proprietary technology to begin the dispatching process after a claim is filed. The company has recently updated their plans increasing coverage and has fewer limitations. Their plans and optional coverage can cover over 25 major systems and appliances.

Choice Home Warranty earns a B rating from the Better Business Bureau and has a positive rating on Trustpilot, but in this industry, negative customer reviews far outnumber positive ones.

Coverage Options - 4.5 / 5

Choice Home Warranty offers existing homeowners two plans, each of which cover a mix of systems and appliances. The primary difference between its Total plan and its Basic plan is that refrigerators, washers and dryers, and air conditioning systems are not included in the Basic Plan. Optional coverage for such items as pools and spas, well pumps, and septic systems is available for an additional fee. The company states that, in any case, its total liability for any single item is capped at $3000, but lower limits do apply to some covered items.

We requested a quote for a single family home of less than 5000 square feet in a small midwestern city. The premium for Choice Home Warranty's Basic was $47.85 per month and the premium for its Total pan was $54.95 per month. With the cost difference between the two plans being only about $7 per month, to our mind, the Total plan a better value overall because it includes coverage for three of the most common appliances: refrigerators, washers, and dryers. It also includes coverage for air conditioning systems.

The company's co-pay for a service call is $85, slightly less than most comparable companies. The co-pay may be reduced further with special discounts and promotions.

Everything was very simple. All I had to do is fill out a claim and wait on the serviceman to get in touch with me. I'm so glad that my AC is fixed and I'm enjoying the cool air.

The repairman was very knowledgeable and friendly very good experience would recommend your company to anyone. In fact I have recommended you to my daughter who has American shield and is very disappointed. She will call you when her contract runs out.

I have an a/c that has gone out, in the middle of July. CHW called me, via robophone, and said to hold while waiting for a staff member to discuss the claim. Over 2 hours, and multiple hang ups, I still have not talked to a human. It's easy to get hold of a sales rep, but try to talk to anyone else, and it doesn't work. I'll be submitting my cancellation. This company has terrible customer service. I would not think twice before joining this group.

Only contact this company if you are serious about purchasing their policy. I contacted Choice to get an idea of pricing on a property I am purchasing. You have to provide contact information for them to provide the estimate. Once that is done they FILL your inbox with solicitations. Unsubscribing has had zero effect. In fact, even though they are sending me multiple emails per day from them and a ridiculous number of affiliates, when I try to unsubscribe it tells me the email address is an invalid format. Interesting since it is apparently good enough to send me several emails per day. In addition, they won't stop CALLING me, even though I have requested they remove me from their... Read More

I advised my client to purchase protection from Choice Home Warranty. 6 months after the purchase, the HVAC unit failed. Choice Home Warranty said they would only cover the repair or replacement if we could provide proof that the former owner had serviced the unit regularly. We were unable to find the former owner and if we had, it is unlikely he would have kept invoices. We escalated the issue and found that this company will not pay this claim. They agreed to refund our payment and cancel our "warranty". It took months and many phone calls to get my clients refund. I now keep a flier on my wall with "Never Again" written in bold magic marker

i gave you an excellent rating based on response time and quality of work. however, i do have a complaint. when our dryer broke and the repairman said it was not fixable, which was in the first week of may 2016, we didn't receive a check towards the new one until about june 12, 2016, and i found this to be way too long to have to wait. i was told why it took so long - something about sending out checks on one particular day of the month. whatever, this has to be changed because it can be a real inconvenience to the customer. i know it was for us. other than this, no other complaints.

Everything was excellent, except the wait time to speak to someone when my claim was under review. I think 25min is excessive.
