Our Overall Rating: 4.6 / 5 (Excellent)

Choice Home Warranty offers a full array of home appliance and systems coverage at a competitive price. The company offers two plans for existing home owners —Basic and Total. In addition to a monthly premium, customers can expect to pay an $85 service fee each time they make a claim, which falls in low-to-mid range when compared to other home warranty companies.

You can submit a claim 24/7, including holidays, via phone, online, or app. The company utilizes proprietary technology to begin the dispatching process after a claim is filed. The company has recently updated their plans increasing coverage and has fewer limitations. Their plans and optional coverage can cover over 25 major systems and appliances.

Choice Home Warranty earns a B rating from the Better Business Bureau and has a positive rating on Trustpilot, but in this industry, negative customer reviews far outnumber positive ones.

Coverage Options - 4.5 / 5

Choice Home Warranty offers existing homeowners two plans, each of which cover a mix of systems and appliances. The primary difference between its Total plan and its Basic plan is that refrigerators, washers and dryers, and air conditioning systems are not included in the Basic Plan. Optional coverage for such items as pools and spas, well pumps, and septic systems is available for an additional fee. The company states that, in any case, its total liability for any single item is capped at $3000, but lower limits do apply to some covered items.

Contract & Price - 5 / 5

We requested a quote for a single family home of less than 5000 square feet in a small midwestern city. The premium for Choice Home Warranty's Basic was $47.85 per month and the premium for its Total pan was $54.95 per month. With the cost difference between the two plans being only about $7 per month, to our mind, the Total plan a better value overall because it includes coverage for three of the most common appliances: refrigerators, washers, and dryers. It also includes coverage for air conditioning systems.

The company's co-pay for a service call is $85, slightly less than most comparable companies. The co-pay may be reduced further with special discounts and promotions.

The company that was to service our problem (heater problem) sent two different notices that their tech would be at our home on a certain date & time. The tech never showed up nor did he notify us that he wasn't going to make the appointment. Finely on the third appointment (after I had called the company several times) the tech showed up & took care of our problem.

The people you sent out were not able to repair my disposal. They said it needed to be replaced but Choice would not appove it. I fixed the problem myself and I am 83 years old. Doesn't say much for your company.

Very good service on our refrigerator. When it couldn’t be repaired, they promptly allowed my claim. The money they sent me was in the form of a Lowe’s gift card, which was fine with me. The amount of the allowed claim was for about half of what I will be paying to replace it, but it was in accordance with the terms of the contract, which is for builder’s grade appliances, but I was good with that. It was, after all, what I had agreed to.

I thought the representative (Joseph) was helpful, informative and professional. We haven't used this service yet, but I the price was good and the coverage seems pretty thorough. Only time will tell!

The tech from Thompson Hovan was 5 star excellent, so was the company. As always Choice was awful to work with, it took a long time and 4 companies before I could get this one. If my house was flooding it wouldn’t matter to Choice. I would NEVER RECOMMEND CHOICE HOME WARRANTY!!!

So far this is only the 2nd time I have had to request service. Without mentioning the name of my previous provider I will say that I will miss being able to receive priority services due to circumstances such as having children in the home and or having disabilities, especially during this time of year when the weather is questionable.
