Coverage Options - 4.1 / 5

First American offers two plans, the Basic coverage, and Premier coverage.

While their basic coverage protects mainly kitchen appliances, their Premier plan offers complete protection for all main home systems as well as appliances.

In line with most businesses in the industry, however, they will not cover cosmetic damages, damages due to improper maintenance or installation, and any known or unknown pre-existing conditions.

Coverage amounts differ by contract, yet their limits range around $3,000 in the aggregate for kitchen refrigerators, $1,500 for heating systems, and $500 for ductwork, which are substantially higher than comparable companies.

Contract & Price - 3.8 / 5

Annual premiums with First American can range from $300 to $500+ depending on the plan and option selections, quite reasonable within the home warranty industry.

The company extends a standard 12-month contract term and allows customers to obtain quotes and enroll online. Contracts seem to have different cancellation policies according to geographical location, so customers are advised to read their warranty agreements thoroughly before signing.

For instance, Texas residents may cancel their plans within the first seven days of coverage for a full refund, whereas Virginia residents have 20 days to cancel and receive back the entirety of their payment, provided they have not filed any claims under said contract.

Had to use the service 3 times in the first month after purchasing our home. Once to fix the A/C which seemed to work for about two weeks after until we hit colder weather. The one chance day we hit 80 in fall and it didn't feel like it was keeping up - we will see in the spring. Second, to repair the dishwasher which went without response for 5 days before getting a call from the contractor saying they don't work on my brand and told ME to call First American to tell them they don't do that work. Third call was for water heater gas control valve that went bad. 4 days later - mass confusion, no hot water, bumbling idiot of a plumber and 8 calls to First American with no end in sight.... First American Home Warranty, yet you never speak with anyone in America. Started a claim on 9/20/17 for my washer that has water coming back into the machine and my the bottom oven on our double wall oven that gets warm, but not hot. They told me a technicion would call me to set up an appointment. On 9/25 I called Appliance Parts Planet. Tech said he'd be out the next day. He came out, two easy fixes, but he would need to order the parts and would call me to set up a return date. 10/6 I call tech to see when he would be returning. The oven part is on back order and he doesn't know when it will be available...okay? He has the part for my washer, but will call when the oven part comes... Read More

so far 10 days without a working water heater. I was told on a follow up call that the water heater purchased order was approved and will be sent to their vendor. After 5 days of not hearing anything from the contractor I called FAHW and I was told that the Purchase order was not approved yet and will be soon... whaaat? So they lied to me the 1st time and that was it on this second follow up... I was told that a Manager will contact me to resolve my case... Very disappointing.

Horrific customer service. I had there service for year.My a/c was in need of repair. I informed by rude customer service rep. That my a/c repair was an preexisting condition.Granted I have been under their warranty coverage for a full year. They refuse to repair a/c. It cost 900.00 to repair and if wasted payments.Where to be add in to cost around 1200.00. Worst company ever I don't know how they are ranked so high.

Terrible customer service and appalling result. We have coverage, moved into our home 3 months ago which has a pool and Jacuzzi. The transformer and actuating value were broken and despite having a premium policy that covers pool and spa equipment they denied the WHOLE claim saying that they did not cover an electronic board as part of the electrical system. Not only that, but first they denied the claim, then after we called them, they then approved it, only the following day to call us back and deny it again. We were on for at least 2 hours with them all total to no avail. Absolutely terrible service and coverage.

This company was rude and not willing to do anything, They want proof that the part was working prior to the effective claim date.. so i guess i should have known the parts would go out and had a contractor verify there working before the date i got the warranty. This company will do anything to not have to fix something. I paid $75 deductible to a contractor who came and said yep its broken then First american home warranty said no to the claim that it was pre existing and prove to them it wasn't, WTF really! Don't waste your time and money. I hate this company and you will to

This company is the worst! I needed a repair on my AC unit. I have been trying to have it fixed for over 3 months - the contractors they assign to me either don't make the appointment or fix one problem and cause another, which is the latest issue. The latest company I have called 2x without a call back. When I told First American, they replied, "I have reviewed and I reached out to the contractor, they indicated that they called you for service but have not heard back. Please feel free to contact them directly." I couldn't believe they took the word of the contractor over mine - a paying customer! I am not renewing with them and I do not recommend them at all.

This warranty came with the house. I had a good experience the first time I called for a claim. (Garage door issue). This past summer however was a true test of how they treat people. Our ac went out and it was 100+ degrees. I called one day, didn’t hear back from them for 2 days. I called back on the 3rd day and the employee said no one was taking action to get us help. I continued to call daily and they couldn’t find anyone to help me. I finally got upset and demanded to talk to “upper management” and they allowed me to find my own contractor. I had someone at my house the next morning. I realize summer may be a hard time to find ac contractors but they were content to leave me in a... Read More

I inherited this warranty with purchase of my home. Made the mistake of renewing for a second and final time. Small repairs went fine but Once we actually had a big ticket item to repair there were additional fees to repairs labeled modifications in addition to your service fee and monthly payment which makes you wonder what is the point of the warranty?. We had a horrible experience with a company they sent out to perform repairs. We were given differing cash out values by different representatives which were both extremely minimal (of course they went with the least amount even though we were initially given a higher cash out value blaming the representative for misquoting even though... Upon my 27 inch drop-in range being designated as unfixable, first American offered me a 30-inch oven for a replacement. When I explained that it won't fit in my kitchen I was told that they don't HAVE TO fit the size, only the operations of the ranch. My Choice was to either spend thousands of dollars remodeling my kitchen to fit the range they offered or take the cash out offer which covers 30% of the range I need. They explained that since they buy so many appliances they get them at discount prices and therefore the cash out offer was way less than the range actually costs. In the end, I had to pay $800 of my own money to get a functioning oven again. Was not impressed with their "this... Read More
