Coverage Options - 4.1 / 5

First American offers two plans, the Basic coverage, and Premier coverage.

While their basic coverage protects mainly kitchen appliances, their Premier plan offers complete protection for all main home systems as well as appliances.

In line with most businesses in the industry, however, they will not cover cosmetic damages, damages due to improper maintenance or installation, and any known or unknown pre-existing conditions.

Coverage amounts differ by contract, yet their limits range around $3,000 in the aggregate for kitchen refrigerators, $1,500 for heating systems, and $500 for ductwork, which are substantially higher than comparable companies.

Contract & Price - 3.8 / 5

Annual premiums with First American can range from $300 to $500+ depending on the plan and option selections, quite reasonable within the home warranty industry.

The company extends a standard 12-month contract term and allows customers to obtain quotes and enroll online. Contracts seem to have different cancellation policies according to geographical location, so customers are advised to read their warranty agreements thoroughly before signing.

For instance, Texas residents may cancel their plans within the first seven days of coverage for a full refund, whereas Virginia residents have 20 days to cancel and receive back the entirety of their payment, provided they have not filed any claims under said contract.

STAY AWAY! SCAM!! they sent a Sears man to supposedly repair our dryer & subzero ice maker. What they didnt know is we have video footage at our gate. Sears many claimed he came to property to repair, - he actually never even bothered to show up. We have everything on video showing they are liars. This happened twice. Simply put, First American Home Warranty are not honest and they bill you even when no one shows up.

At their direction, I called First American's plumber, who promptly came out and told me he couldn't fix the problem until someone else opened up the wall. Once we had the wall opened, the plumbing company would not answer or return my calls. I called First American, who had to call the emergency line to reach their plumber. I was told to call the plumber again to make an appt. Again, the plumber did not answer or return my calls. Since company was soon coming and we'd have 7 people using one small bathroom, I had the problem fixed by another plumber. I called First American again and was advised to submit my receipt for the work, which took me some time to do via their website. I then... Read More

it is worst customer warranty I have had. it has been more than 3 weeks since I have first contacted The First American Home Warranty re my air conditioning issue. Claim has no result, customer service provided wrongly information. Worst part is after 3 weeks, the parts finally ready to ship. Unfortunately, the wrong parts have sent to local contractor. Not only the customer service, but the claim specialist and several supervisors I have talked with, they never followed up and leave me the long time customer so hopeless and suffer the hear (120F). They will not do anything, except I call daily. I just act like a coordinator between The First American Home Warranty and very rude... Read More

Beware , beware I am a first time buyer of a home and received First American Home Buyer's Protection Corporation home warranty while I bought the home. Six months later my AC compressor broke down and I must pay 65 service charge Plus $365 fee 4 flushing the lines and replacing the compressor. Also I put in the complaint on June 15th 2017 and only have it approved on June 27th 2017. But also now they tell me they don't even know when to expect the compressor to be shipped to the company to do the work and cannot even give me a time frame for that process. After many complaints I get no answer. Beware

This is a NOT TRUST COMPANY. If you contract is new and something fail they do not going to take care of you. They are going to say that it was broken before the contract which it is not true. This is not a serious company I had a very bad experience with them. Please try another company do not waist your money!!!

Where do I begin! Over a period of 2 yrs we have had an ongoing problem with one HVAC in our home only to finally be told it will replaced however we will be out of pocket a whopping $1460 in addition the the numerous phone calls and service calls which take time out of work day. Pure frustration! It took over a week for them to replace (after lengthy 'approval' process with their professional warranty personnel). Was thinking of using them at a new home purchased but because we did not sign up within 60 days of purchase the price for same 'home warranty' has jumped by $388. They sure know how to chase current customers other warranty providers.

My air conditioner broke June 17. We filed a claim that same day. We were contacted by Cool Image who schedule an appointment for morning of June 22. They cancelled the appointment. A new contractor was assigned and was schedule for Saturday. He showed up Sunday and assessed the problem. He said he requested the parts. First American said they are waiting for the request. We have called several times, spoken to several people, all are going to help, all speak broken english. This is a nightmare. Heat in the triple digets. Bad company, bad service.

I paid for a service call, and after 2 months they sent me a letter stating that the job had been completed, but it had not been completed!! I called and they told me they would send someone, and after 2.5 months I'm still waiting! Not to mention the fact that they charged me (without my authorization) another service call that I was not aware of. It never exited, and I am yet to get a refund for the supposedly second service call charged on my credit card, and for them to fix the reason I made the service call. I know who I will not do business with anymore!!

PLEASE DO NOT FOLLOW US IN THIS NEVER ENDING NIGHTMARE! The call centers are offshore and the service is less than lousy. EACH time we've had to have repairs it has been like pulling teeth. Earlier this year we had a plumber come out, he LITERALLY walked in, tested NOTHING, and declared that our problem wasn't covered! Immediately I called First American (what an oxymoron) to let them know what happened and they smirked at me! I asked for a supervisor and he told me, laughingly, that HE was the supervisor! He then REFUSED to transfer me. I hung up and called again and NO ONE would help us! And this is a GOOD experience. Currently we have been without air since THURSDAY! The contractor has...
