First American offers two plans, the Basic coverage, and Premier coverage.

While their basic coverage protects mainly kitchen appliances, their Premier plan offers complete protection for all main home systems as well as appliances.

In line with most businesses in the industry, however, they will not cover cosmetic damages, damages due to improper maintenance or installation, and any known or unknown pre-existing conditions.

Coverage amounts differ by contract, yet their limits range around $3,000 in the aggregate for kitchen refrigerators, $1,500 for heating systems, and $500 for ductwork, which are substantially higher than comparable companies.

Contract & Price - 3.8 / 5

Annual premiums with First American can range from $300 to $500+ depending on the plan and option selections, quite reasonable within the home warranty industry.

The company extends a standard 12-month contract term and allows customers to obtain quotes and enroll online. Contracts seem to have different cancellation policies according to geographical location, so customers are advised to read their warranty agreements thoroughly before signing.

For instance, Texas residents may cancel their plans within the first seven days of coverage for a full refund, whereas Virginia residents have 20 days to cancel and receive back the entirety of their payment, provided they have not filed any claims under said contract.

I've just sent First American a cancellation for our two properties. We've paid the warranty for 3 years. Today was the first time we needed them for a leaking water heater. After a couple of different calls, the earliest someone will be sent out is the next day, late afternoon, from another state. We're in the Seattle area. They really need to send someone that covers Oregon and maybe WA??!! Our money is better spent on a local plumber.

I have had nothing but trouble with FAHW for the past couple of years, first in my previous home now in the new house I purchased last September. What is interesting is with the most recent claim, my hot water heater stopped working last week, first I had the gas company come out to make certain I didn't have a gas leak. No leak, but they told me what the problem could be, $8 part and labor. Next I filed a claim. The first contractor couldn't get to me for 3 days. So I called my regular plumber to have them at least tell me what was wrong, they assessed the problem and wrote it up costing me $93. Cost to fix approximately $450. I then called FAHW and filed a new claim, explaining to them I... Read More

On May 14th, we contacted FAHW due to our pool/spa heater stopped working regularly. The heater will start - but shuts itself off after a while. As of 6/26/17, the problem has not been resolved! This is Work Order 609350900 Worse is that we have stayed home waiting for contractors who NEVER shows; others do NOT know what they are doing & cannot resolve...each time we complain to FAHW they transfer us to their Complaint service department! Each time, they offer another contractor who does not show or delays repairs another week. Extremely Frustrated and we are planning to terminate contract! Never use FAHW!!

We have had First American Home Warrant on our single family home since September 2011. Since that time this company has defrauded me out of numerous plumbing and appliance repairs. Our dishwasher will run but the pump and nozzles are worn out and they repair technician did not have the parts on hand and never returned to finish the repair. We called them multiple times but the operators play games to get you to go away. They will tell you things like: 1) we are waiting for the technician's report; 2) we did not know the appliance had not been repaired yet? The Company drag this on until you go over 30-days and then they want to collect another co-pay of $65 or the refuse to complete the... Read More

Never pay for FAHW!! Do Not WASTE your Money!! All repairs take weeks - without service!! We have paid for FAHW insurance for the past couple years. Each prior minor repair was poorly performed and takes a few weeks! Our Home Heater Control Board was put in backwards by FAHW service. Afterwards, We just paid directly $200 outside of the warranty, as we were cold and without heat in order to resolve. Most Recently, our pool heater only heats for a couple hours and shuts down. We have made a claim since May 10th - Pool Heater Is Still Not Working! FAHW has placed us with 4 different companies: several repairmen are "no shows" and puts the burden on homeowners to be at... Sadly, I'm extremely unhappy. When I first moved into my condo, I felt good as a single female because I knew I had a home warranty covering my appliances, etc. Issue #1: Within my first 2 months of living in the condo, my refrigerator died. I had to run around in circles, make countless phone calls, and at the end of the day I went at least 5 days with NO fridge (and I have severe dietary restrictions, so I cook at home a lot, have a lot of frozen and fresh foods that need cooling). This sucked. Finally, they sent out a guy to say there were some parts he would try repairing and it would take 7 work days to order them. I could not wait another 2 weeks, so I had to go out and buy a new... Read More

AVOID FAHW AT ALL COST- A BAD DEAL AND POORLY RUN COMPANY i have received the worst possible assistance from FAHW. They will not work with their clients in finding a repair company. It took 4 months to get my spa repaired after 12 + calls. Finally i was told i would be totally reimbursed if i found a repair compony. When i did they took a random number and reimbursed me for $ 125 less than the cost. When an AC unit failed, they insisted i use a company 45 mile away that could not service me for 6 days. They would do nothing to locate another provider. Their call center is in El Salvador and have receptionists that don't care, dot communicate in English well, and i have been magically... Read More

We are currently having difficulty with First American Home Warranty to help us find someone who will call and come to our house and replace our hot water heater. I submitted a claim on May 9, 2017 for said repair. I was given a contractor contact of USA Plumbing here in Amarillo, TX that is where everything stopped. I have not been able to have the contractor return my calls after several attempts, nor will First American Home Warranty return calls like they say they will. I am beyond vexed!!! I take care of my parents, who are both disabled, and the bathroom that is handicap equipped for them is the one that does not have hot water. I have stressed the urgency and the risks that my... I've had this company service for two years. My recent experience with them was my hot water heater is leaking. I called in for service. They sent an contractor out to fix the problem. The contractor only take about 10 minutes and he wrote the company a report stated that the problem I'm having is "pre-existing problem" and now the company won't fix it. I called them to see why not and they told me this problem that I have is has been at least 6 months or more so they won't fix it. They said it's not their responsibility. They said if I have had this problem last year they would fix it. Does it make sense to you? For 2 years I've had a service with them, my hot water heater hasn't... Read More
