Coverage Options - 4.1 / 5

First American offers two plans, the Basic coverage, and Premier coverage.

While their basic coverage protects mainly kitchen appliances, their Premier plan offers complete protection for all main home systems as well as appliances.

In line with most businesses in the industry, however, they will not cover cosmetic damages, damages due to improper maintenance or installation, and any known or unknown pre-existing conditions.

Coverage amounts differ by contract, yet their limits range around $3,000 in the aggregate for kitchen refrigerators, $1,500 for heating systems, and $500 for ductwork, which are substantially higher than comparable companies.

Contract & Price - 3.8 / 5

Annual premiums with First American can range from $300 to $500+ depending on the plan and option selections, quite reasonable within the home warranty industry.

The company extends a standard 12-month contract term and allows customers to obtain quotes and enroll online. Contracts seem to have different cancellation policies according to geographical location, so customers are advised to read their warranty agreements thoroughly before signing.

For instance, Texas residents may cancel their plans within the first seven days of coverage for a full refund, whereas Virginia residents have 20 days to cancel and receive back the entirety of their payment, provided they have not filed any claims under said contract.

Most of what they pretend they do is not true. I have never seen a 24/7 response to a claim. If you report any failure on Friday afternoon, you have to wait for Monday. Their contractors are trained to find any reason for not honoring the contract and the repair, which by the way is full of exclusions. Any claim you put in, they'll find multiple ways to say it's not covered or all of it is code change so you, the poor consumer, have to pay. Think about how many times you put in a claim and you have to pay all or part of the costs. Instead of signing with them, deposit the monthly payment into a separate account, so you'll have the repair money when you need it. Don't forget you have to pay... Read More

I have had First American home warranty for 5+ years. I have a broken tankless water heater and it has been 7 days with no resolution. The experience has been worst. One of the worst call center experience both at a agent and supervisor level. The response was we are escalating.. when I am without hot water in the house with young children.

Where do I begin. My experience with First American Home Warranty was absolutely awful, terrible, dreadful and horrible. Dealing with them caused my family and I so much time and stress. We had to put in a claim for our downstairs ac/heat unit not blowing cool air during the summer time. This unreliable company they sent out told us that the units were defective and needed to be replaced. So they had me sign some paperwork saying so and that they would send the information to FAHW. A week went by and they never sent it. We had to keep calling this unreliable company and push them to send the paperwork. Pathetic. Finally, after they did, FAHW sat on it for over a week. So we had to... Read More

Over the years we have used First American for several properties and were very satisfied. However, that has changed over the last year. They made the financial decision to utilize call centers in other countries. It has become extremely difficult to speak with a customer service rep. in the US. Since then customer service gives generic answers that seem to be read off que cards. Besides the customer call center issues. The techs that have been sent to our home have been unable to correctly do repairs. In past years, we have been very satisfied with the repair people that have been sent to our home. However, once again in the past year, we have experienced 3 different repairmen on two... Read More

This company is horrible. The decided not to pay my claim at first after accusing me of doing the damage to one of the swimming pool filters. Then after I complained to BBB (Better Business Beur.) they said that my claim was denied because they have't received my premium payment on time. They are a SCAM. I strongly recommend not to deal with them !

Horrible customer service. I have been with them for over 3 years. Wait time when you call is more than 45 min. None of the people answering phones are located in USA. they are all oversees and half time communications problem. I am looking to change mine for sure.

Horrible! I have had to use this company multiple times and Every time they disappoint. The contractors they use take forever to call if they call at all. They also show up super late to the schelduled "window" time or don't show up at all. I've had all of these happen multiple times. Also, when you call the company to find out what the deal is, make sure you always get a name because they will put you on hold then disconnect the call. Make sure you Google or even Yelp this company, you will find many many more reviews. on Google they have 1 star :/

Unfortunately, I have been a customer with FAHW for 5 years, and I will definitely not be renewing. They will eventually get your repair done, but it will not be done quickly, even if your AC is out in 100 degree heat. If the vendor's open time slot(s) don't work with your schedule, tough! Make it work, or cancel the claim. FAHW will not let you change to a different vendor. I had to wait weeks to get my dryer repaired, and I would have waited days to get my AC repaired (in 100 degree heat). I have a family, so I had to cancel and hire my own vendor instead (for next day service). Avoid them unless you like waiting.

First American Home Warranty IS HORRID!! They pit you against the Service Providers. They send substandard repair people to your home, then refuse to make things right without taking over 2 months and threats of legal action before they do anything! RUN!!!
