Home Warranty of America offers comprehensive home warranty plans that cover more than most other basic plans.

Home Warranty of America offers two plans, the Premier and Premier Plus, which include coverage for over 30 items traditionally not covered under basic home warranty plans.

The company also provides optional coverage for secondary appliances, saltwater equipment, and even primary and secondary pools or spas.

Besides offering a remarkably extensive coverage, HWA also has a GreenPlus plan that allows customers to replace their covered systems or appliances with Energy Star-qualified products.

This last option is available for $5.77 a month or $75 a year, which delivers excellent value, considering the amount of water and electricity customers can save using high-efficiency models.

Claims Processing - 3 / 5

Home Warranty of America charges different service fees for each plan, between $60-$100.

Though they have a standard 30-day waiting period before the coverage can begin, maintenance records aren't necessary to receive service.

HWA states they are not responsible for routine maintenance of systems, appliances, or components.

Clients who want those items to remain in working order will have to service themselves.

Two excellent things about this company is that they offer 24/7 claims processing and though they require authorization for contractors before providing services, these don't necessarily have to be from their network.

We got HWA with the closing of our house a year ago. Earlier this month, our air conditioner unit went out, and we filed a claim. It happened to be on the Fourth of July, which was a massive heat wave. Our house ended up being 90 degrees upstairs in my infant son's room, which isn't a safe temperature for any human, much less a tiny one. We understood that it was the holiday, and they assigned us to a company that would give us a call on the 5th. The morning came and went and the vendor that they assigned us to never called us. I called them 6+ times and left messages that they still to this day have not returned. I called back HWA to see if there was another vendor that they could switch... Read More

I had HWA for 2 years and they practice unethically. They fail to stand behind their customer when the vendors they use take advantage. Buyer beware! There are plenty of other companies to choose from and this one will take your payment, then leave you hanging when their vendors fail to repair things or cause further damage. Their customer service is poor at best and they have a lot of progress to make before they will be a respectable company.

Please do not use Home Warranty of America. This company is a waste of your money and time! My washer broke down and they sent a contractor who could not repair it. 10 days after the claim was filed in accordance with their contract and policy, still no word on its status. I called multiple times and am getting a scripted response that’s the decision on the claim is in the review. Why pay an annual fee and call in fee when no one is working on the claim. A total scum, I’m shocked how this company stays in business, likely due to the way they run their business - taking advantage of their customers like you and I .

It's beyond me how HWA stays in business. I have never cared for home warranties but it came with our new home purchase. Their customer service is terrible when it comes to claims and they will look for any excuse to avoid paying out a penny. We, as well as our service contractor, followed their guidelines to the letter and it seemed that the claim was about to be paid but right at the end they said the labor charge was too high and refused the entire claim. They were arrogant when I tried to discus it with them and the same when they called me to try for a renewal and I told them exactly why there was no chance for that to happen.

Do not use this company my heater went out in Nov I called and they recommend a vendor, the vendor never called me I called them back and they tried another vendor who told them they would not come to my area and they had no other vendors. They did offer to me, that I could use my own vendor to repair the unit, but that if I did this the vendor would have to call HWA prior to the repair being made. The vendor called and was authorized to do the work, they told him they would cover everything but the $200 flue (sp?) pipe. I then called to verify what my reimbursement amount would be they told me I needed to have the done and send them a bill once work was completed. I had the work... Read More

Their website states that you will have an appointment within 48 hours of your Fix-it request. My dishwasher was on the fritz, HWA vendor called and could not be out for 10 days, HWA had no back -up repairman, and an OH WELL attitude, They did nothing but inconvenience me and when I asked for my money back all I got was a prorated sum and $30.00 cancellation fee. DO NOT USE THIS COMANY, CHECK OUT OTHER COMPLAINTS

Do not use this company. Claim 2425313. My A/C unit went out in my house during some very cold temperatures. I called HWA, they wouldn't have anyone out for 3 days. They did offer to me, that I could use my own vendor to repair the A/C unit, but that if I did this the vendor would have to call HWA prior to the repair being made. My vendor came out and identified the issue and then called HWA with the item needing to be repaired and the cost. HWA approved the item and the A/C was fixed for 506$ + 59$ service fee. HWA then called me and said they would only reimburse me 151$ because that is what they would have paid. This is after they said they would pay 75$ per hour just for the techs time... Read More

I'm not sure why this company shoes 3 1/2 stars when all the reviews are negative. I never write reviews, but felt it was necessary because this company is a complete scam. Our furnace went out with temps below zero. They sent one of their companies out to inspect it. The company then made false claims (we know they are false because we've had 2 other HVAC companies come out and give a different diagnosis than the small crappy company they sent out to us). After the inspection, HWA never called us back. We finally got ahold of someone after calling multiple times and they told us our claim is being denied. The keep changing their reasoning as to why it's being denied. We sent them reports... Read More

TERRIBLE COMPANY!! Someone came out to "fix" our dishwasher and we paid $100.00. The next time we used our dishwasher it didn't work. Called them and they sent someone else out. I asked them if I would be responsible for $100.00. They said no. The guy came out and "fixed it" again. Never heard from them. I received an invoice on 12/6/17 saying I owed the $100.00. I called them on 12/7/17 telling them that I don't owe the money per the last customer representative I spoke to. I disputed the second charge on 12/7/17 and they "sent it for further review." I called back on 12/15/17 as I hadn't heard from anyone and received another invoice and they said that it was reviewed on 12/7/17 and... Read More

Absolutely terrible, they deserve negative stars. You have no choice in the product repairs or replacement. They required us to pay more than needed because the brand they like to use would need modifications to fit in our home, those modifications were not covered. But they were only necessary because they wouldn't agree to use a different brand that would fit. They also required that we approve non covered repairs with the covered ones or they would not pay the covered ones. Decided to cancel and that was a whole other nightmare that is still going. I did everything write, read the contract, cancelled in writing in the time frame. Called for confirmation multiple time. Called after... Read More
