Home Warranty of America offers comprehensive home warranty plans that cover more than most other basic plans.

Although their annual premiums and call service fees are on the higher end, when compared to similar offers, the company does provide excellent additional coverage such as the GreenPlus option, which replaces old systems and appliances with high-efficiency models.

With extensive coverages, fitting prices, a flexible cancellation policy, and 24/7 claims processing, Home Warranty of America provides everything a discerning customer could wish for.

Coverage Options - 3.5 / 5

Home Warranty of America offers two plans, the Premier and Premier Plus, which include coverage for over 30 items traditionally not covered under basic home warranty plans.

The company also provides optional coverage for secondary appliances, saltwater equipment, and even primary and secondary pools or spas.

Besides offering a remarkably extensive coverage, HWA also has a GreenPlus plan that allows customers to replace their covered systems or appliances with Energy Star-qualified products.

This last option is available for $5.77 a month or $75 a year, which delivers excellent value, considering the amount of water and electricity customers can save using high-efficiency models.

Home Warranty of America charges different service fees for each plan, between $60-$100.

Though they have a standard 30-day waiting period before the coverage can begin, maintenance records aren't necessary to receive service.

HWA states they are not responsible for routine maintenance of systems, appliances, or components.

Clients who want those items to remain in working order will have to service themselves.

Two excellent things about this company is that they offer 24/7 claims processing and though they require authorization for contractors before providing services, these don't necessarily have to be from their network.

I’m not sure if the service provider, S& S Appliances, Birmingham, AL is a scam service provider or if you’re in it together. Either way, we have been scammed, ripped off, lied to; return calls promised from a “supervisor” never occurred. I would like th have the name and number of a REAL MANAGER, not a pretend supervisor.

Dont waste your time or money on HWA. You will be charged a trade call fee for someone to come out who clearly has no idea what they are doing. then, HWA will find some reason why the repair isnt covered.

The AC first failed in May 2016, 9 months after purchasing this home and 2 weeks after the birth of my daughter. The previous owner had a service contract with an HVAC company. Their technician thought there was a Freon leak in the system, so replaced it once per the contract. He recommended replacing the unit. When the AC failed again, I contacted HWA. The technician discovered that the AC was tripping the circuit breaker. He instructed me to reset the breaker to restart the AC. Since I'm not a HVAC technician I didn't realize that this wasn't a solution to the problem, only a band aid. I continued to reset the breaker all last summer. I reset the breaker a few times a day while... Read More

I cancelled my contract on October 25, 2017 and have not yet received a pro-rata refund for the remainder of the contract, October 25, 2017 to August 22, 2018. HWA does not follow the Cancellation Policy listed above. They have kept my money for close to a year now. I cancelled because it is very difficult to get assistance from this warranty company, when needed. There’s always some excuse to find items are “not-covered”.

As a first time homeowner, my refrigerator freezer stopped working one day so I decided to try this home warranty that came with purchasing my house. This was my first claim filed with HWA and will likely be the last. HWA sent an initial technician (OMG Appliance Repair) out who I paid a $100 trade call fee to. He took some time to diagnose the issue and concluded it was a freon leak, but did not have anyone at his company that could fix it. He updated my claim to HWA, who then contacted me and said they would assign another contractor to start repairs. I didn't need to pay any fee to the second technician here, so supposedly all is well. Unfortunately, the second contractor... Read More

I have been with home warranty for over a year. when I had a problem with my air conditioner the service man did not know what he was doing. He had no idea where to start. He removed my thermostat and simply said it was no good because it was old. He took all the wires from the thermostat and spliced them together. He wanted to know where the transformer was located. he thought it was located in my basement I told him it is probably located in the unit in my attic. when he located the transformer he removed it and started cutting wires. I asked him if he knew where they all went he to me he figure it out. He wired the transformer and said lets go down to make sure the wires from the... Read More

Claim: 2678157 - I have been experiencing issues with both of my air conditioning units. I reported the issue for both units, upstairs and downstairs. First and foremost, they seem to use very poorly run companies as their vendors. The first 2 vendors never called me to set up a time to check out my units and neither did either of them answer the phone when I attempted to call them. I finally got HWA to use another vendor, and this vendor came immediately to my home. However, he only checked the ducts. He did not check my units or anything. He ended up having to come back for a second time. When I called Home Warranty of America back, I told them the issue was for upstairs and downstairs.... Read More

I opened a claim to fix my oven on April 17. The technician came out few days later and took the broken part to mail to a 3rd party to be fixed. I was told that it would take 2 weeks to fix. A little over 3 weeks later the technician finally returned my calls only to say that he had not sent it off because he had not received the required HWA prepaid postage to mail. After numerous calls and week later, HWA finally sent the postage they should have send a MONTH ago. After waiting another two weeks, I tried to contact the technician about the part. It took another three weeks and a complaint to HWA to get him to call me back. When he arrived at my house to fi the over we discovered... Read More

This company is terrible. Save your money and stay away at all costs. If you think you need to replace your appliances you're better off getting a part-time job to earn extra money than to spend hours on the phone with these people being transferred from department to department. We moved into our condo unit in April of 2018. The unit was older so we decided to get a home warranty from HWA on recommendation from our realtor. Our oven stopped working in early July of 2018, it's now August 6th and I still do not have a working oven or any hope of a resolution or reimbursement. Each time I reached out to HWA the phone calls lasted well over 30 minutes and I was transferred to at least... Read More
