Home Warranty of America offers two plans, the Premier and Premier Plus, which include coverage for over 30 items traditionally not covered under basic home warranty plans.

The company also provides optional coverage for secondary appliances, saltwater equipment, and even primary and secondary pools or spas.

Besides offering a remarkably extensive coverage, HWA also has a GreenPlus plan that allows customers to replace their covered systems or appliances with Energy Star-qualified products.

This last option is available for $5.77 a month or $75 a year, which delivers excellent value, considering the amount of water and electricity customers can save using high-efficiency models.

Claims Processing - 3 / 5

Home Warranty of America charges different service fees for each plan, between $60-$100.

Though they have a standard 30-day waiting period before the coverage can begin, maintenance records aren't necessary to receive service.

HWA states they are not responsible for routine maintenance of systems, appliances, or components.

Clients who want those items to remain in working order will have to service themselves.

Two excellent things about this company is that they offer 24/7 claims processing and though they require authorization for contractors before providing services, these don't necessarily have to be from their network.

I just moved into a new home that came with a brand new washer. Turns out for whatever reason the washer is not properly working, but wait! I have a home warranty so this will be okay. Not this case with this company. I have become totally convinced that this company is a fraud and is scamming people out of their money. I wasted the $100 deductible for the repair person to come out. The HWA representative calls back and requests our Home Inspection because she cannot process the claim without it. Well they used my home inspection to deny my claim. HWA says that since the inspection doesn't state the washer was properly working before our claim, they are not going to pay to fix my... No venders in rural areas. You find your own, pay in full, submit for reimbursement which takes 4-6 or 8 weeks. Supervisors not available and don't return calls as of yet. Requested cancel with 3 claims open, claims person Felicia called & said if I cancel claims will be closed without pay. I said lets not cancel then I will double pay as I went with different warranty company. Then they cancelled and I talked to Felicia and she said all I need to do is pay for October & the September refund to be reinstated. Now they say upper management is denying reinstatement & I can't get anyone to cooperate. So now I have my attorney involved. All calls are revoreded. I would say do yourself a... Read More

Submitted a service repair request for our refrigerator on 24 Sep. The first company comes out, diagnosis the problem and states they need to order a part. HWA contacts us and states the first tech can't work on a "sealed system" and assign to another company. Can't coordinate schedule with second company so it's assisgned to a third company. They come out, come to the sames diagnosis and also state they need to order the part (4-7 days). HWA calls us a states the company #3 can't work on a "sealed system." Whic begs the question - why did they pick them? Now assigned to 4th company who stated that, if they can find the part (they still need to diagnose the problem (required by... Read More

In the two claims that were made, the first was a leaking bathtub that was causing water damage to the bottom floor ceiling of my home. The plumber that was sent out to the house incorrectly diagnosed the cause of the leak, I ended up purchasing the necessary equipment to fix the tub and performing the maintenance myself, a wasted 100 dollar deductible. The second time was another plumbing issue, this time the plumbing company that responded did a great job with my kitchen sink. However, the largest and most egregious of instances that occurred during my time with this warranty company was when they took $45.95 from my account and refused to refund me my money when I told them I no... I purchased a coverage through HWA when I bought my home last fall. On July 2, 2017 my air conditioner stopped working. HWA has "approved" this expense, according to numerous telephone conversations; however, it has now been 22 days and my family is still without air conditioning during the middle of summer. I have two small children at home with special needs, making our home extremely uncomfortable for my entire family. We are at our wits end, and feel like we are being held hostage by this terrible company. BEWARE!!!! They are committing fraud by taking people's money and provide NOTHING but stress in return.

This is a follow up to my post last week. So, HWA denied my A/C compressor claim after 12 days of "reviewing the issue" HWA attempted to force a "buy out" offering $680 for a $2400 repair. I called an attorney and sent a note to the states attorney's office to start the formal process in a complaint. The next day, after 7 emails and 6 long waits on hold, in 12 days, to the HWA customer assistance line, an HWA employee calls. The guy states that HWA made a mistake and can have a service technician out to the house to repair the a/c unit in 2 hours. I reply that HWA denied the claim yesterday and that I authorized the $2400 repair out of my own pocket. The guy tells me that I 'MUST... Read More

This company is a cheat. Three years with them and they have denied all my claims. After that I cancelled. After multiple phone calls from them and countless notices in the mail asking me to renew, I called them back. I explained my experience and hesitation to return. They then convinced me to renew and assured me I'd be taken care of. I even upgraded. Two days later my A/C broke. They rejected my claim again saying it was pre-existing and I had a lapse in coverage. My kids and I are sitting here in the middle of summer sweating. Seven claims in all. They always find a technicality to not replace anything. The fact that I have given them my money for 3 years had no bearing and they... Read More

I will follow this up but, the short version, Home Warranty of America is horrible. Our Keller Williams realtor suggested we buy the Home Warranty from HWA. Keller Williams gets a kick back from HWA/Direct Energy. A/C went out on 07.03.2017. Nine 9 days later, HWA tells me they wont fix the a/c unit because it has R22 Freon. The repair is $2400.00 HWA is forcing a buy out for $600 on a covered item. They basically are refusing to repair the A/C unit that I paid to be insured. This is a 2013 A/C unit.... HWA purposely dragged out this event to force me to repair the unit myself... 9 days without A/C is the south and 10 days in a Hotel with my family is enough. I just hired a contractor... Read More

Buyer Beware. This is a company that will not honor what they offer. They give you the run around and are dishonest. Customer service is the worst and will not allow you to speak to a manager. the kicker here is that when you do what you suppose to which is do maintenance on your Air conditioner unit yearly for preventative this way your unit is running right and you limit the need to have repairs. Then you have a warranty company try to use that against you when you. Telling you that you have an unauthorized repair when you never repaired anything. typical case of trying to get out of what you paid them for. Please enter at your own risk

Purchased HWA warranty with new home through title company. Refrigerator starting having multiple problems and when we called HWA said they had no record of contract. After contacting realtor they straightened it out a few days later. Submitted claim for refrigerator and assigned service contactor came out 3 times and replaced all electronics controllers and blower (took 30 days) and the refrigerator was even worse. The contractor stated it was unrepairable and needed to be replace. Contacted HWA and they said they would review the case after the contractor reported it. Called back next day and they said they needed a second opinion and assigned another contractor. No one has called... Read More
