Home Warranty of America offers comprehensive home warranty plans that cover more than most other basic plans.

Although their annual premiums and call service fees are on the higher end, when compared to similar offers, the company does provide excellent additional coverage such as the GreenPlus option, which replaces old systems and appliances with high-efficiency models.

With extensive coverages, fitting prices, a flexible cancellation policy, and 24/7 claims processing, Home Warranty of America provides everything a discerning customer could wish for.

Coverage Options - 3.5 / 5

Home Warranty of America offers two plans, the Premier and Premier Plus, which include coverage for over 30 items traditionally not covered under basic home warranty plans.

The company also provides optional coverage for secondary appliances, saltwater equipment, and even primary and secondary pools or spas.

Besides offering a remarkably extensive coverage, HWA also has a GreenPlus plan that allows customers to replace their covered systems or appliances with Energy Star-qualified products.

This last option is available for $5.77 a month or $75 a year, which delivers excellent value, considering the amount of water and electricity customers can save using high-efficiency models.

Those who wish to cancel after the first 30 days are able to do so but will receive a pro-rata refund of the amount paid for the unexpired term, minus service fees and the 10% cancellation fee.

Claims Processing - 3 / 5

Home Warranty of America charges different service fees for each plan, between $60-$100.

Though they have a standard 30-day waiting period before the coverage can begin, maintenance records aren't necessary to receive service.

HWA states they are not responsible for routine maintenance of systems, appliances, or components.

Clients who want those items to remain in working order will have to service themselves.

Two excellent things about this company is that they offer 24/7 claims processing and though they require authorization for contractors before providing services, these don't necessarily have to be from their network.

In July 2018 we purchased a house in Phoenix, Arizona in 116°F weather. A home inspector tested our air-conditioning system and indicated that all inspected components of the air-conditioning system were acceptable, and made no recommendations of repairs. A 12 month warranty with Home Warranty of America was obtained with the purchase of the house. We ran the system heavily all summer and paid sizable electrical bills but were always pleased with how quickly could cool our place. No modifications or repairs were done to the system until near freezing weather in January when the 30-year-old Trane AC compressor failed. No cause was given for this failure by the technician, and none of... Read More

I am a current customer who is extremely disappointed with the trustworthiness of this company. Long story short - I was approved for a project for about 1600$ by this company’s customer service. When the project was over and I sent HWA the bill from the contracting company I worked with - I was reimbursed 188$ ! Reached out to their customer service many many times stretched over months but they always gave a standard textbook answer about an auditor evaluating the enormous work that was done to equal 188$. Having wasted so many hours with this company I would like to give it a huge thumbs down.

For anyone who reads this....DO NOT GET HOME WARRANTY OF AMERICA FOR ANY REASON!!! I just purchased my home late last year that came with the "Diamond Plan" purchased by the seller. I called in three plumbing items. I waited a few days, and upon not hearing from them, I called again. I was told a call was attempted to me and nobody answered. I asked what number they called (I have just a cellphone) and the person I originally called had transposed the number. It was during this call they tried to sell me an additional warranty, and I told them I would wait until this claim was complete. I was then told the work order was cancelled. A second call was initiated, and a few days... Read More

You should have the people that schedule repairs understand what you all cover and what you don't! I had 7 different technicians called to help fix my hood vent on my stove top... every one that your company called was told it was our stove top, and every one DID NOT do hood vents - took of work 4 times to meet them at my place. The last one that was sent DID actually cover hood vents and came to my house only to find out YOU ALL DON'T WARRANTY HOOD VENTS! I have now been without a hood for over a month, have taken off of work 5 times to meet the service agents FOR NOTHING - oh and the kicker I had to pay $75 for the technicians to come before they even came, and when they showed up they... The technician deemed my furnace irreparable and turned the power off to the unit due to potential fire hazard. The HWA received diagnosis the very next morning and since then it took 4 days before the company even reviewed the claim(this is in the middle of the winter, with temperatures down to 20s and 30s). To get the buyout option I had to wait 2 more days. The customer service is subpar, to say the least. Out of all agents I spoke (and I called few times daily), very few offered apology and only one took an action to move the claim forward (on the 3rd day). Unfortunately, there's no option to give less than one star.

I have been waiting over one month to have my refridgerator repaired. I cannot get them to move forward on my claim. I have called repeatedly for a status update. I have now called twice to speak with a supervisor. I get no returned calls with updates and the supervisors don't return call requests either. I am very unhappy with this company. Nancy Davis

We've had Home Warranty of America since 2011, so it is disappointing how far they have fallen. We used to be very happy with their coverage and claims and service and have referred them to many friends and family. We are certainly sorry for that now. We had an A/C with a broken part (a leaky pipe) and it needed a new pipe to be replaced. Unfortunately, this type of A/C unit was banned by the EPA years ago and is no longer manufactured, so in order for this A/C to be fixed, we need a new A/C as you can no longer buy the part in question as it is no longer made. Well, Home Warranty of America is happy to pay for the part ($400 parts and labor) if we pay for the rest ($3500 for a new A/C... Read More

I have been without a water heater for 3 weeks. The incorrect water heater has been ordered and delivered twice. Every time I call to talk to a supervisor, they are busy and will call me back withing 24-48 hrs, but they never call. Talking to their representatives is like talking to a brick wall. The only answer they will end up giving you is that they can send an email to their purchasing department. This is the worst experience I have had with any company in my life. I wish I had something nice to say about this process in order to justify the 1/2 Star.

(1) This company uses Non-USA based customer service call centers that do not keep track of claims correctly, lose notes, and do not call back when promised. It is extremely frustrating to deal with the employees because from one call to the next, no information is kept and you explain everything again and again. (2) This company hires unprofessional, shady contractors, that sometimes do not show up, or even when they do show up, do not finish the work. On two occasions, after paying the $100 deductible, the contractor did not come back. I really believe that this company is a scam. They may complete some claims, but overall, they design themselves to be so frustrating that people... Read More
