United Healthcare is awful. Had a medical emergency on board a cruise ship in January, filed a claim in early March with no response received by the middle of June. My inquiry today (3 months later) was answered that they would "expedite the paperwork...please allow another 60 days". No indication whether they will even reimburse the cost. Just terrible, terrible service!

We have had this company for the past year for healthcare coverage and I have lost track of how many times they have sent notice that they are not covering my husband's PCP appointments because "The PCP has not been selected or doesn't match the PCP on file." This has been an ongoing issue, and as many times as we have had to call to correct THEIR mistake, I once again find myself staring at another list of current charges they aren't covering due to their error. Get this: Date of Service 2/18 for said PCP is 'covered'. Date of service on 5/03 for the same PCP is 'not covered' because 'the [same!] PCP doesn't match on file or has not been not selected'. WHAT?!? And they list these on the... Read More

Customer Service is horrible. They deny every single claim the first time it's submitted saying no referral and every time I call they find the referral. They will not approve testing the Dr wants done. I have been with UHC 20 Years but will switch as soon as open season comes back around. Can't take it anymore.

Deny, deny, deny. These are their favorite three words! They have a retired quack deny your claim if there's an iota of justification in the hopes you self pay.

This company provides misleading definitions within their plans, changing industry standards to allow them to deny paying at standard industry rates. They have onerous processes that make it impossible to get certain medications covered. They take your money and find any and every way possible to decrease what they cover and payments to cover treatments people need. This company is morally bankrupt, draconian, and despicable.

While UH's customer service reps are some of the best, their accounting is atrocious when there is a problem. UH cancelled our dental rider for non-payment; however, all our payments were being deducted from our checking. When we got late notices we contacted UH and were told to ignore them if our checking was debited. So, we ignored them. Then they cancel our dental, only to receive a letter stating they will pay for dental surgery in full. We have the surgery, then learn our policy is cancelled and owe $750. My husband spent HOURS on the phone with UH trying to resolve this. We pay the money due to the dentist, then appeal. UH then pays us the full amount, but then demands from the... Read More

Start telling your customers what their covered for and how much you will pay. Are you freaking insane? You won't even tell a customers physician what you cover and how much you will pay until the treatment or procedure has already been scheduled. I repeat, ARE YOU INSANE? Apparently, so I'll sell you a bridge, but you must first agree to buy it before I tell you how much it's going to cost. You are stinking money-grubbing scum and probably lack the intellect to grasp the depth of my disdain. May all your children get pancreatic cancer. YOU GET ZERO STARS. I'll be filing a complaint with my Insurance Commissioner.
