American Home Shield's coverage is among the most comprehensive we've seen in the industry. The company covers considerably more appliances and systems than its competitors and has fewer coverage limitations.

The company recently updated its plans—they now have three to simplify choosing the right one for your home. American Home Shield focuses on the repairs that offer the most value to consumers, removing items that are inexpensive to replace, increasing its coverage limits on appliances in its most expensive plan to reflect today's higher-priced, "gourmet" appliances, and adding roof leak coverage.

American Home Shield offers consumers a choice of three plans, following a good-better-best model. Its ShieldSilver plan warrants systems only, but can be amended with certain add-ons, including pools, electronics, and guest houses. Its ShieldGold plan covers a range of systems and appliances, again with add-on options. Its ShieldPlatinum plan covers everything in the ShieldGold plan, plus roof leaks up to $1500 and some routine maintenance services. These include free HVAC tune-ups, unlimited top ups on your AC refrigerant, coverage for code violations including permits.

All told, American Home Shield covers 23 systems and appliances, considerably more than most of their competitors, and fully covers 11 of those items. There is no limit on the number of claims a customer can file over the year’s contract, either.

American Home Shield has a flexible pricing policy and offers three different coverage plans and two trade service call fee levels: $100 and $125.

This allows consumers to have input into the annual price based on their budgetary needs.

We requested a quote for a single family home under 5,000 square feet located in a medium-sized midwestern city. The minimum annual premium (Shield Silver Plan) was $59.99 per month. The maximum premium (Shield Platinum Plan) was $109.99. So AHS prices are somewhat higher than many competitive plans. Consumers should note that their final price will vary by plan, service call charge selected, and location.

I am dosssapointed they are claiming my 14 year old washer is non repairable u see warranty desputecthe texhnicial telling me its wear and tear problem- this shady company has botched service repair responsibility with the appliance company- dishonest and unrealiable - Fighting my case how can you give this company a great rating? Look at all the customer service reviews below, they’re horrible

Stay AWAY from this company. It takes an hour waiting on the phone just to talk to a customer service. After a 75 dollars copay, they will send a technician that will do more damage to your appliance. Our washer would not spin, and after the technician worked on it, it would not even turn on. They refused to replace our washer. We bought a new washer with our own money after waiting 2 weeks for them to call back. They did not call. We tried to cancel our policy, and they would would not do it. We are still trying to get our money back. If I could give a negative star, I would. STAY AWAY

Date of Original Service Request: 07/20/2018 Today's Date:09/11/2018 No Repair Has Been Made Between Those Dates. Beginning on 07/20/2018 AHS company has sent the first A/C company to my house and verified that my compressor had grounded. When that company sent the work order through authorizations, AHS transferred the service request to a second company. There were scheduling issues and unreliability from the second company. The second company continuously called asking to reschedule due to Emergencies. AHS transferred to a third A/C company. The third company would never even answer their phone or schedule a showing at the property. AHS transferred to a fourth company that did finally... Read More

Sadly, I had nothing but a bad experience with their contractors. We had to call them several times for our AC and heating. Each time they refused to fix the actual problem. We had to replace the duct system for the heater and then a year later the AC out of pocket.

I purchased a brand new home in 1998 and American Home Shield was installed immediately. I used them over the years and paid faithfully. The motto "Repair or Replace" is not true....when my A/C went down after many years.....they refused....I figured I'd paid them over $10K over the years and when it came time to "replace," they refused. I was so pissed, After 15 years of paying and paying, I cancelled. Here I am again, purchasing another home....an existing home, and I know I'll need a home warranty. Caldwell Banker provided AHS for my home while it was under contract for sale.....and I laughed. I doubt very seriously I'll be utilizing AHS services personally again.

Call Center is horrible. I paid $75 for an electrical repair through R&R Electric in Orlando, Fl. The repair was never completed. We went outside of the warranty company and hired our own electrician to complete the work.The customer service rep called the manager of the electrical company that they hired and received the verification that the service was never completed. I was promised a refund for the service fee. I called on 3 different occasions about the refund, of course none of those calls were recorded. I never received the refund. Call center is terrible. Very slow and can hardly understand them. My account was also placed in "past due" status yet I had never received and invoice or bill for service! I am told their service is good in major metropolitan areas but from my experience, not being in a big city, their service is terrible; they do not have many service providers, if you don't live in a big city. I did receive a phone call for a survey of how well they did but, the survey was only 2 questions; totally unfair questions with absolutely no details. I would not recommend American Home Shield.

Very bad call center. I called them on Tuesday September 4 for two issues one for my garage and the other for the electrical And they confirmed $75 each total $150 for both service and I said that’s fine . The electrical Office dispatch called me and schedule a date. Two days later a young gentleman came out looks like about 20 years old doesn’t know much . They have to reschedule for another day for someone else that knows. they’re talking about 4 to 5 Business days I said OK. Now my garage door. no one ever contact me for the garage door . DO NOT GET THIS INSURANCE. My air conditioning broke because of a worker THEY SENT me. They did not fix the root problem and made it worse, eventually it fully broke. I called the insurance to fix it but they said they don't have a worker living in my area because he's on vacation. They told me I have to wait until he gets out of vacation so he can fix it. This is UNBELIEVEABLE and UNACCEPTABLE. Who knows when his vacation ends. It is 90 DEGREES in my house and I have two children who are SUFFERING from this. I ADVISE YOU TO NOT GET THIS INSURANCE-THEY DO NOT SEND IMMEDIATE HELP. I HAVE BEEN WAITING FOR 3 WEEKS. PLEASE DO YOURSELF A FAVOR AND DO NOT GET THIS INSURANCE.
