The company recently updated its plans—they now have three to simplify choosing the right one for your home. American Home Shield focuses on the repairs that offer the most value to consumers, removing items that are inexpensive to replace, increasing its coverage limits on appliances in its most expensive plan to reflect today's higher-priced, "gourmet" appliances, and adding roof leak coverage.

American Home Shield offers consumers a choice of three plans, following a good-better-best model. Its ShieldSilver plan warrants systems only, but can be amended with certain add-ons, including pools, electronics, and guest houses. Its ShieldGold plan covers a range of systems and appliances, again with add-on options. Its ShieldPlatinum plan covers everything in the ShieldGold plan, plus roof leaks up to $1500 and some routine maintenance services. These include free HVAC tune-ups, unlimited top ups on your AC refrigerant, coverage for code violations including permits.

All told, American Home Shield covers 23 systems and appliances, considerably more than most of their competitors, and fully covers 11 of those items. There is no limit on the number of claims a customer can file over the year’s contract, either.

American Home Shield has a flexible pricing policy and offers three different coverage plans and two trade service call fee levels: $100 and $125.

This allows consumers to have input into the annual price based on their budgetary needs.

We requested a quote for a single family home under 5,000 square feet located in a medium-sized midwestern city. The minimum annual premium (Shield Silver Plan) was $59.99 per month. The maximum premium (Shield Platinum Plan) was $109.99. So AHS prices are somewhat higher than many competitive plans. Consumers should note that their final price will vary by plan, service call charge selected, and location.

Not a fan at all, they only fix items that only benefit them. I had a pool heater go out and they sent some guy who was rude, didn’t want to be there and stated “I don’t care, I don’t need the money” AHS said the reason was due to a preexisting condition (we bought the house 4 months ago) and the pool guy never tested the water, don’t waist you money with this Company. When our contract is due we will be looking for a better Home Warranty, one who cares

I just want to say it is important to read customer reviews and especially the ones in your local area to give you an idea of customers service experience and they are treated and complaints handled. Those of you who included your reviews in the DC/MD/VA area ... kudos and thanks. Worst service ever received. Had a clog in plumbing line in house . Toilets wouldn't flush and had water backing up in drain in garage. Called ahs and was told they would send me name of plumber and I would pay 75 service charge. That was at 5 am. At 9 am got phone call back from a plumber they assigned and was told by person on the phone it could be next week before they could possibly get out to fix it. Not acceptable. What am I supposed to do go to gas station to use the toilet?. Called ahs back and was told my name was back in the que. And the usual time for call back is within 24 hours. Long story short. Well, we have been AHS customers for a long while. We 2 properties, one in Va. and one in Tx.. VA based, no problems really good service. Texas, that's another story! I'm going to name names in this case because folks need to know.... Less than a year ago we had an AC issue in Houston , TX Katy area; they sent out a service Rep. Airtronics ...they replaced the compressor and all was well for a week or maybe two and then the AC stopped working again but, this time something blew and there was oil and freon everywhere on the outside part of the unit and we were told that a pipe needed to be weilded and that freon would need to be paid for @ $80 per lb. and we needed 17 lbs. price for the... I never do this but today and I really hate having too but I have had more then enough and I am going to speak out!!! I am a senior that works full time in the ministry, with a disabled husband, a ill son and a amputee sibling who lives with us occasionally. I have kept my home warranty for such as time as we would need major repairs in our home as I don't have a lot of physical help or income. However, I would not recommend American Home Shield to anyone, any place, anywhere for any reason. Wow! The contractor sent out to address my problem was not qualified to do so, so now I have the pleasure of waiting another day for someone who can! Did AHS let me know? Not on your life!..and when I called and spoke to the Oh So Pleasant Stephanie she informed me they didn't have to call me if they didn't want too! So, good customer service is optional now? We have been customers of American Home Shield for the past 5-6 years. We purchased the best warranty program they had to offer because we have a swim spa. When we filled out out application we specifically indicated that we had a Spa and a heat pump to heat and cool our house. This winter during the coldest part of it, in January, our heat pump stopped working. We placed a service call, the technician for out area was too busy to come. My husband and I are in our 70's. It was 62 degree in our house, but he could not come. We called AHS again, they arranged for another technician to come from York VA. This is the worst company you want to deal with ,with a water leak i reported since 5/31/17 no plumber has been sent to fix the ongoing problem till today 6/7/17;continuously have been losing water , my kitchen cabinet wood is all messed up .i call all most every day sometimes i will be put on hold for more than hour ,each representative the come on the phone has a different story to tell .Am so frustrated you can never speak to any supervisor even if they tell you some will return your call. For the matter of fact i have been placed on hold for hours as am writing this review still waiting if some could assist me

I've had AHS for approximately 5 years now. I've had ok service using them for 2 claims during this time. However approximately 3 weeks ago my clothes dryer went kaput. After putting in a service request I was told someone would contact me In 24 hours. After approximately 36 hours I received an email saying service would be rendered in 6 days UNACCEPTABLE. I then called and I spoke with someone and advised them that 6 days was not practical. She then scheduled me for 4 days. I then asked for a supervisor to ascertain why I couldn't get this service from the initial representative.
