Coverage Options - 4.1 / 5

First American offers two plans, the Basic coverage, and Premier coverage.

While their basic coverage protects mainly kitchen appliances, their Premier plan offers complete protection for all main home systems as well as appliances.

In line with most businesses in the industry, however, they will not cover cosmetic damages, damages due to improper maintenance or installation, and any known or unknown pre-existing conditions.

Coverage amounts differ by contract, yet their limits range around $3,000 in the aggregate for kitchen refrigerators, $1,500 for heating systems, and $500 for ductwork, which are substantially higher than comparable companies.

Contract & Price - 3.8 / 5

Annual premiums with First American can range from $300 to $500+ depending on the plan and option selections, quite reasonable within the home warranty industry.

The company extends a standard 12-month contract term and allows customers to obtain quotes and enroll online. Contracts seem to have different cancellation policies according to geographical location, so customers are advised to read their warranty agreements thoroughly before signing.

For instance, Texas residents may cancel their plans within the first seven days of coverage for a full refund, whereas Virginia residents have 20 days to cancel and receive back the entirety of their payment, provided they have not filed any claims under said contract.

Very Poor response and service. No call back about claims or reviews. Closed claims without anyone showing up at my home. Took 3 times to get service provider to show up. Statements on file report items that were not told to me by service company or anyone from First American. Terrible Experience!!! Switching companies

This company has wasted countless hours of my time. First, the tech they sent out to deal with my dishwasher left water all over the floor for me to clean up. When he came back, he chipped my countertop reinstalling the dishwasher, and glued it back on, so we wouldn't notice for a couple days until it fell off. Next, my microwave is mounted above my stove. It has been there for 23 years, and has naturally started to bend the frame, causing the front grill to snap off. I have duct taped it into place, but it keeps falling off nonetheless, and several times, into hot grease, splashing it everywhere while cooking. The microwave itself stopped working around the same time, so we filed a... Read More

Work Order 613911567 I am in Peoria, AZ temperatures have been between 116 and 122 for the past several days. First AC unit went out on 7/8, I was told by the representative that I was in an emergency queue. However, the initial contractor never made contact. Then I was told that the dispatch team would respond within 12 hours and they never did. Two days later, I was told to then find my own company for HVAC and given a $200 authorization. As the entire unit needs replaced I am now waiting for First American to get Sears out and that is scheduled for 7/16, six days into an emergency issue. Now my second AC unit has failed as it has been trying to compensate for the massive... Read More

READ THESE COMMENTS BEFORE YOU BUY. The company is terrible, they are a nightmare to deal with. I have had a refrigerator claim ongoing for 37 days . They lie about parts , contractors deadlines and replacements. I have spent over 7 hours on the phone (mostly hold) and you cant get to a supervisor . The have broken every promise they have made. The select the worst contractors because they pay a fraction of the prevailing rate. SO you get unvetted , unqualified , not certified repair technicians in your home. The company they sent to me has an "F" rating with the BBB and has 200 negative reviews online and a 1 star rating on EVERY site I could find..The current estimated time frame... Read More

We got the first response threatening letter from FAHW on date of 06 to 29/2020, "FILES COLLECTION THREATS" We had to call 4-5 times they never answer the phone, but holding for a.30 minutes and recording said they would call back, and they never call back about 5-6 times, so, we are sending another number 5 emails as of 06/30/2020, at the time: 6:56 pm. FAHW again, never call back, they said they'll call back. Issue of the service called payment of $75.00, vs. fee we paid to FAHW the amount of $71.50, on date of 03/13/2020, and canceled FAHW SERVICES date of 03/13/2020, the deference of the amount of $3.50. It will be smarter to clean it up as soon as possible. Enough... Read More

They are TERRIBLE. We are actually in the process of filing a law suit against them. They agreed to pay for our repair but have hired a TERRIBLE contractor with awful reviews the contractor is up charging us 500%. That number is based on an estimate from another licensed HVAC contractor. Then they said they would pay us out but only at a fraction of what it would cost for the past needed for the repair. My husband and I have been doing all the foot work making calls and trying to get in touch with the contractor. Customer service at First American has been TERRIBLE. Over all a very very frustrating experience.

Amazingly fraudulent. I made the mistake of going with this “company” and suffered the loss of money for no services. Do not follow my mistake STAY AWAY. This company has to be one of the most fraudulent and nearly criminally deceptive wastes to your money in the “home warranty business”. The happy customers are probably ones that have coverage but luckily never used their “warranty”. What will you get for your money. First you will get a paper envelope with some information on how you can pay $70 to make a claim. Great stuff. If you happen to call for warranty “service” you will pay a fee and they will dispatch someone to you house to look at your appliance, HVAC, range, fridge,... Read More

Nothing but regret getting First American. I can not get them to call to follow up with me. Contractors no show and they close the service request. The contractors they partner with all have 1-2 stars on yelp. It’s madness! Run far away. I had Fidelity at our last house and loved them.

We purchased a house and purchased First American Home Warranty. I am elderly on heart medication and live in Las Vegas Nevada. Our A/C unit failed and was inspected by First American Warranty on April 5th. This company has been astonishingly careless and has ignored multiple requests to repair or replace the A/C unit. We were living in a house in which the outside temps topped 100 degrees and the inside temps were 88 degrees at night. It took them 5 weeks to replace a unit which any other AC company could replace the unit in one day. Furthermore the company expects us to pay $800 for installation costs on a covered item. We will be filing a claim against them in small claims court. I... Read More
