Coverage Options - 4.1 / 5

First American offers two plans, the Basic coverage, and Premier coverage.

While their basic coverage protects mainly kitchen appliances, their Premier plan offers complete protection for all main home systems as well as appliances.

In line with most businesses in the industry, however, they will not cover cosmetic damages, damages due to improper maintenance or installation, and any known or unknown pre-existing conditions.

Coverage amounts differ by contract, yet their limits range around $3,000 in the aggregate for kitchen refrigerators, $1,500 for heating systems, and $500 for ductwork, which are substantially higher than comparable companies.

Contract & Price - 3.8 / 5

Annual premiums with First American can range from $300 to $500+ depending on the plan and option selections, quite reasonable within the home warranty industry.

The company extends a standard 12-month contract term and allows customers to obtain quotes and enroll online. Contracts seem to have different cancellation policies according to geographical location, so customers are advised to read their warranty agreements thoroughly before signing.

For instance, Texas residents may cancel their plans within the first seven days of coverage for a full refund, whereas Virginia residents have 20 days to cancel and receive back the entirety of their payment, provided they have not filed any claims under said contract.

Firs American home warranty and chosen contractors provided the worst service ever. FAHW, dodged the coverage and did not communicate properly to the contractor. The contractor failed to follow up and get the needed part or communicate with me. FAHW, is just another scam among all home warranty , they denied service coverage of the part based on act of god excuse in fine print that no one can understand. Very slick. The contractor is probably a victim of FAHM. The heating system was broken for 17 days, and I was able to fix it when hired a technician in less than 30 minutes. Horrible....

My microwave has been out and waiting on parts for 10 weeks. After 1 month I have called every week and got the same answer. "Purchasing is checking in to getting the part" . Today, after 6 calls, I was told that no one has been assigned to the case from purchasing. Every week they tell me they will call me back in a few days and email me so I don't have to be on hold for 1 hour each time and they don't. As far as they are concerned I have to wait indefinitely.

I don't usually submit negative reviews, I just don't continue service....BUT this matter hit me hard. I was hospitalized for 40 days due to COVID-19; of course bills were behind. Once I was able to contact all of my creditors I attempted to make arrangements to catch up on my arrears. 1st American Home Warranty was one of them, and twice I was told by the phone rep that arrangements to make later payments were granted (I could pay my balance in full by 12/20/20), as you can see this note is dated 12/21/20 BUT I rec'd a COLLECTION NOTICE on 12/16/20. Even after contacted the billing office again, which the rep was unconcerned of previous arrangements, the bottom line was I owed this... Read More

We purchased this contract with a check via at a closing. No documentation saying this would not be refunded if cancelled early. We cancelled five months early because they have no local repairman in Columbus, OH. Amazon took all the repairman! They would not fix the requested items. The Electrician called me from 150+ miles and attempted to trouble shoot over the phone. Then we cancelled the warranty, they gladly said yes and kept the remaining funds. DO NOT USE THEM! THEY ARE CROOKS!!!!! Make sure realtors do not use them.

Very disappointed with this company. It takes at least 35 mins.to reach anyone on the phone & often they transfer you & another wait. Terrible customer service! DO NOT TAKE A BUYOUT! The Only paid a 4th or less of what our air conditioner costs to replace. They Claim they can replace a 5 ton air conditioner for less than $2000 installed haha. We were without AC for 5 Weeks in Fl in Aug. & Sept & then got it only because we used local Company ourselves or we may not have air yet! Most of their employees are from central America & often hard to understand.

I have not had fa for many years. My best decision ever was to leave this company behind. They will take your money but they will send only the most incompetent workers and often not much is actually covered. Customer service is awful. You are better off putting aside money every month so you can hire a legitimate service person. I give fa a ZERO.

FAHW has not kept their commitment to repair or replace an appliance their repairman cannot fix. But they do relentlessly send repairman. I have had 6 visits total using 2 different appliance repair companies. The first repairman who came out 4 times finally admitted he did not know what was wrong with the dishwasher. The 2nd company came out twice, the 2nd visit I was told he was going to replace a control panel which was already done by the first company and they never returned and the work request was marked by FAHW, closed/completed. I have not received any response from FAHW or the 2nd repair company and consequently, I will have to buy another dishwasher and have it installed.... Read More

I have filed several claims for small items. Each time I noticed the phone time increases. Last call took almost 30 minutes to speak with customer service. Not sure if this is intentional or ? Now, I filed a claim for repair to electrical outlet. After several days they tell me that they don't have anyone to come out and that I must find a repair company on my own and pay directly out of my pocket and then at a undetermined time they will reimburse but I have no way of knowing how their process works and nor do I keep several hundreds dollars laying around since I only have social security. Regardless, that's why I entered into a contract with them to avoid such hassle. I feel they are... Read More

I've graciously given First American Home Warranty 1-star, only because had no option to rank them lower. We were talked into adding coverage for the pool on our new home because the salesperson convinced us that one repair could pay for the whole thing. Reluctantly, I agreed. Back on July 4th, our pool broke down. We called them on July the 6th and they said they would send someone out quickly to take a look. 2 weeks later someone arrived. The long and short, they only reported the work that needed to be done. Since then, First American Home Warranty has shown a level of incompetence like I've never seen in a company. Here we are on September the 15th. We are supposed... Read More

Don't do business with this company. Incompetent intake people, systems that are not streamlined with their contractors, too many levels for simple approvals. They have no sense of urgency even if their own people screwed up, causing a delay in getting something done. The plumbing contractor they chose obviously does not trust them either....a verbal approval is not good enough. They require an actual PO before they will do anything. This was not the case a few years ago with American Home Shield. AHS got my garage door fixed the same day. FAHW took one week to replace a water heater. That is a week without hot water. After you enter a claim online, their own return email says to... Read More
