First American offers two plans, the Basic coverage, and Premier coverage.

While their basic coverage protects mainly kitchen appliances, their Premier plan offers complete protection for all main home systems as well as appliances.

In line with most businesses in the industry, however, they will not cover cosmetic damages, damages due to improper maintenance or installation, and any known or unknown pre-existing conditions.

Coverage amounts differ by contract, yet their limits range around $3,000 in the aggregate for kitchen refrigerators, $1,500 for heating systems, and $500 for ductwork, which are substantially higher than comparable companies.

Contract & Price - 3.8 / 5

Annual premiums with First American can range from $300 to $500+ depending on the plan and option selections, quite reasonable within the home warranty industry.

The company extends a standard 12-month contract term and allows customers to obtain quotes and enroll online. Contracts seem to have different cancellation policies according to geographical location, so customers are advised to read their warranty agreements thoroughly before signing.

For instance, Texas residents may cancel their plans within the first seven days of coverage for a full refund, whereas Virginia residents have 20 days to cancel and receive back the entirety of their payment, provided they have not filed any claims under said contract.

Took '4 days' to hear from a contractor after loosing our air conditioner in late July (some of the hottest days of the Summer) I have 3 kids and 3 animals. When the contractor finally called we were out of town and unable to speak with her. Upon returning to town I called the contractor _ Triple Crown Lex KY at 8:05am but got no answer. I called First American again to request a different contractor maybe someone who is easier to get a hold of and maybe lived closer but was informed that they give the contractors the opportunity to make things right with the customers. While on the line with First American they attempted to contact the contractor but again got no answer. I was then... Read More

I have had First American Home Warranty (FAHW) for 1.5 years now and I recently had to use it for the first time. I woke up Monday morning with my floors flooded due to my A/C unit leaking. I called FAHW to send out a contractor. He comes out Tuesday morning. He doesn't know where the leak is but does some caulking and then tells me to monitor it to see if it still leaks and let him know. It does still leak, so I try contacting him multiple times on Tuesday & Wednesday with no response. At this point I call FAHW back because I basically am tied to my home because the bucket collecting the leaking water needs to be dumped multiple times throughout the day. I can't go into work or it... Read More

We recently purchased our house in February. The seller agreed to offer home warranty coverage for us, and we accepted. The dishwasher in our house is unique, it's a split dishwasher, instead of the usual one. We quickly noticed the dishwasher collects water on the bottom half of the machine since we only use the top half. Long story short, I have paid two payments of $75 and after 5-6 technicians, FAHW refuses to replace my dishwasher. FAHW contracts with local companies (the cheapest)and those companies hire 1099 technicians with very limited English speaking skills. Not only I can't communicate to the technician what the exact problem is, but they also can't relay the problem on... Read More

I'm writing to complain First American Home Warranty. They wouldn't waive a $75 charge, which was the service charge (kind of like a deductible). Their reasoning was they sent their contract workers in and checked our plumbing system. However, I refused to pay because First American Home Warranty didn't fix our problem. They didn’t do anything other than making a diagnosis. Their excuses were many. One of them were they wanted us to submit a certificate for mold remediation. But nowhere in their service contract can be found a provision regarding this, not anything regarding a copy of the certificate. I couldn't find anywhere that says I have to provide a mold removal certificate to the... Read More

My refrigerator has been out starting on week five (5)! Parts on order for four (4) week and I was told expedited! I sent service company a text Friday to find out if they are having any luck on the parts...no response! FAM reptile me they would pay $75 towards a rental refrigerator. Can you rent a refrigerator (don't know the length of time) and have it delivered for $75. Will I have a refrigerator before the 4th of July!! That will be week give (5)! NOT a happy camper!

Terrible! Contractor was terrible and did not know what they were talking about regarding my AC. Had to bring in another AC specialist and submit their findings to get the contractor to come back out and confirm that I had a freon leak. AC 101 stuff. Then I received terrible service from FAHW. Never getting back to me and having to follow up over and over. I still have the same AC issue after nearly 2 months. They say they cover everything, but when it comes down to it they really do not cover hardly anything at all. DO NOT make the mistake of choosing them.

First American Home Warranty and their service is very bad. I called regarding an HVAC issue, and it took the company a few weeks to locate a contractor to make a service visit. I had to call back to find out when one would arrive. Once a contractor arrived, he indicated he did not have the equipment to inspect/fix my issue. I was charged $75 for about a 5 minute visit. I also called FAHW regarding a plumbing issue. Explained to the customer service rep it was an exterior pipe issue. The contractor arrived and immediately informed me FAHW does not cover exteriors. I was charged $75. $150 charged for no work performed...both issues were explained on the phone to the FAHW service... Read More

If I could leave a minus rating I would. I am appalled at the incorrect information this company has given me. I spent 3 days trying to get someone out for an emerge cycle water leak. They told me someone would be out with 24 hrs.. 3 days later they have not been able to assign anyone. I have spent the whole weekend on the phone with them as throughout this time, I had been told someone would come out, and then no appointment was made. I was hung up on ,or the call dropped. 3 times. But noone called me back.. and when I questioned this, I was told they had too many people calling and could not call me back! I was told I had a contractor assigned to me on Sunday and would call me an hr... Read More

Beware of this company. I made a big mistake by taking out a policy with this company. My air conditioner went out in July and I live in Las Vegas. So you guessed it the temperature was well over 100 degrees I am 75 and have several animals. So, getting to air conditioning fixed was imperative. I turned in a claim the night I found the air conditioning wasn't working. I won't bore you with the whole story but it took almost 2 weeks to get it fixed and it wasn't by anyone First American tried to stick me with. After receiving empty promises about getting it repaired I called a company that not only returned my call but got the air conditioner fixed the same day. Come to find out... Read More
