Coverage Options - 4.1 / 5

First American offers two plans, the Basic coverage, and Premier coverage.

While their basic coverage protects mainly kitchen appliances, their Premier plan offers complete protection for all main home systems as well as appliances.

In line with most businesses in the industry, however, they will not cover cosmetic damages, damages due to improper maintenance or installation, and any known or unknown pre-existing conditions.

Coverage amounts differ by contract, yet their limits range around $3,000 in the aggregate for kitchen refrigerators, $1,500 for heating systems, and $500 for ductwork, which are substantially higher than comparable companies.

Contract & Price - 3.8 / 5

Annual premiums with First American can range from $300 to $500+ depending on the plan and option selections, quite reasonable within the home warranty industry.

The company extends a standard 12-month contract term and allows customers to obtain quotes and enroll online. Contracts seem to have different cancellation policies according to geographical location, so customers are advised to read their warranty agreements thoroughly before signing.

For instance, Texas residents may cancel their plans within the first seven days of coverage for a full refund, whereas Virginia residents have 20 days to cancel and receive back the entirety of their payment, provided they have not filed any claims under said contract.

I have spent 2.5 weeks out of the past month without AC. Last month the company originally assigned did not show three times even after the president of that company told First American they'd be out the next day. I finally demanded they send a different company. The second company showed and got the AC working again. Two weeks later, the AC stopped working again. The company had me get a new work order and came out. The refrigerant was low again (it was low two weeks earlier when he'd come out) and the motor for the outside unit stopped working. He told me he'd have First American order a new motor and come out and replace it when it came in. Two days later I get a text and email... Read More

I have had to replace a washer on my on after 3 weeks of waiting. Had to hire my on plumber to repair a leak they deemed not an emergency. Took 6 months to get reimbursed. It was 89 degrees in south Mississippi and my AC went out, they deemed that to be a non emergency and I had to call and repair it myself. Now my dish washer is out and they told the repair guy it is going to take them a week to decide if they are going to repair it or replace it. Crap company

I would never ever use this company in the future, as they are complete do not care. I had a plumbing issue and a contractor came to fix the plumbing problem. while he was trying to fix it he broke two parts and told us that one of the part he broke by accident is a major part and will be ordered. he will be able to come back and replaced this part in a week. While he was in my house he received a call from his company (B's plumbing), in which his company was complaining to him about a bad job he did prior to coming to my home. When i told all this to First American and explain that i do not trust this plumber is competent or is capable of doing my work. They claim i have no choice... Read More

The majority of positive reviews here are fake, just take a look at yelp to see what people really have to say about these scumbags. Do not do business with this company! This is the worst home warranty company ever! Our water heater was not working, the first person they sent out just glanced at our water heater and said the vent was blocked, and that they would not cover the repair. He didn't even try to turn on the water heater, or test anything, then he said that we owed him a bunch of money for the diagnosis. We spent several hours on the phone, and they finally agreed to send someone else to take a look at the water heater. The second person looked at it, tried to run some tests, and... Read More

The first I turned on my heat in a recently purchased home, the furnace was not heating properly. After I opera work order with FAHW, I was assigned a service provider that could never get here before at least 4 days had passed. Totally dissatisfied with them after several months of no heat in 20 degrees weather, I ended up having the old system replaced by a local, trustworthy and less expensive company. When I asked FAHW for reimbursement, they denied the claim. It seems totally worthless to have a home warranty. I will not renew my contract and will tell everyone I know about my experience.

Lackluster support, horrible bargain-basement technicians, and an unauthorized cancelled contract. If these sound like what you're looking for, choose First Am. I've used two other warranty companies, and have never felt so devalued as a customer. For $600, I expected some semblance of care, understanding, empathy, or even acknowledgement of my frustration. I've had better customer support from my cable company. I could've called my cable company to fix my A/C and gotten as much out of them as I did First Am. Avoid my frustration. Do not purchase from First American Home Warranty.

The warranty had me pay $2,400 for heater repair and warrantied the work for only 30 days. No working heater and now out $2,400 for the their lousy work. They cited their fine print policy when denying to assist me in getting it working again. I had multiple issues with this company ranging from repairman no shows to double billing. Run hard and fast away from this warranty company.

We have had so many bad experiences with this company. They lose claims or contractors come out and never turn in paperwork so they argue with coverage because they have no report. They will then say they will track down the contractor, but it doesn't happen and they never call you back. Even when contractors say items are 'not repairable' the company still says they have to validate if they can get a part from three other vendors, which can take weeks, and then they finally realize it is not repairable as the contractor stated. When you call for coverage questions they cannot explain what is covered. I would excuse one time, but this has happened at least 4 times to us on various... Read More

Our A/C went out last summer. Had to wait days and days to get a service tech here, in the meantime, we’re about to drop dead from the heat and humidity. Got a call from the service tech stating he needed to push our appointment out to the following Friday because they only serviced our area once a week. I was not a happy camper..
