Coverage Options - 4.1 / 5

First American offers two plans, the Basic coverage, and Premier coverage.

While their basic coverage protects mainly kitchen appliances, their Premier plan offers complete protection for all main home systems as well as appliances.

In line with most businesses in the industry, however, they will not cover cosmetic damages, damages due to improper maintenance or installation, and any known or unknown pre-existing conditions.

Coverage amounts differ by contract, yet their limits range around $3,000 in the aggregate for kitchen refrigerators, $1,500 for heating systems, and $500 for ductwork, which are substantially higher than comparable companies.

Contract & Price - 3.8 / 5

Annual premiums with First American can range from $300 to $500+ depending on the plan and option selections, quite reasonable within the home warranty industry.

The company extends a standard 12-month contract term and allows customers to obtain quotes and enroll online. Contracts seem to have different cancellation policies according to geographical location, so customers are advised to read their warranty agreements thoroughly before signing.

For instance, Texas residents may cancel their plans within the first seven days of coverage for a full refund, whereas Virginia residents have 20 days to cancel and receive back the entirety of their payment, provided they have not filed any claims under said contract.

Called to report emergency water leak and was told someone would respond within 3 hours. One day later and we had to call again- since we didn't get a reponse. On hold for over half an hour. Water has been off since Sunday night. Can't get anyone out here until Wednesday at the earliest. Hire new/ more contractors!!! We have little kids, one who has health issues. Won't be using them again. Our membership is almost up and we are finding a new home warranty company.

I am very dissatisfied with the service people that they contract with. They are not qualified, or they tell you that things are not covered when they really are. Two major issues this year. 1st was with my dryer. They sent a company out that came out took pictures and collected their $60.00 and then left. A week later I call the company still not response. A little after a month they came back out and wanted to charge me another service fee. I said it the same issue you never fixed. A few weeks later they send out another company who finally fixed the issue. Then with my kitchen refrigerator, March 8 2016 I called in regards to it not keeping cold. After sending out the same... Beware of warranty exclusion for partially functioning system. My pool pump is making a horrendous noise. I called FAHBP and they promptly sent a repair man as scheduled. Upon his arrival I was informed that though the bearings in the motor are "shot" which is what is causing the noise, the pump is still "moving water" so my claim was denied. Upon calling FAHBP customer service (I was on hold for 37 minutes vs the 27 min wait time quoted at the beginning of the call), I was informed that each system has to be completely non-functional before they will repair it. I asked about having the bearings replaced and was denied. This is not a policy limitation the sales people disclose... Read More

Had a couple of problems with there service. The last left me very unsatisfied with this company, I'll never use them again. I felt like the were running a scam to double dip the fee's and when I called to try & resolve the issue I got a total run around & absolutely no effort to listen or satisfy the problem.

I have had disappointment after disappointment with this company. The contractors they use are incompetent and unreliable. It took 2 weeks and several phones calls to get my refrigerator fixed. Now I am without AC in Texas for 3 days now. The contractor was supposed to come today between 8am-5pm. It is now 8:30pm and nothing. The contractor doesn't answer their phone and I have called First American 4 times already, hold for 15-20 minutes each time and then get disconnected. I would not waste your money or time with this company. Not once has the company offered to make things right. I will be contacting the BBB to file a complaint.

Terrible service, outsourced support, hours of wait time to get ahold of a person and then they don't speak english! They are supposed to assign a contractor within 2 days of a service request, as of today it has been 6 days that my A/C is not working in 100 + degree weather in Austin, Texas!

On the July 7th I placed an EMERGENCY work request to have my AC unit repaired. Since that timeframe 1st American has dispatched 2 technicians. The first technician could not service my unit and the 2nd technician provided a diagnosis and recommendation a couple of days later. However, since the 8th of July no one from 1st American has contacted me with the status of this EMERGENCY request. I was told that Deven Raj (x2626) was my Claims Manager but I have never heard from him even though I've left messages at his extension. I (the customer) have resigned myself to contact 1st American every 3 or 4 days. During this process, I am on HOLD from 35-90 minutes before I am able to speak... Read More

They are the worst. If you want to spend your life on hold and still get nothing this is the company for you. I have been fighting with them for 40 days about replacing a dishwasher and all I get is alot of arguments about why they can't replace the same dishwasher I have when they have already agreed to replace my 2 year old dishwasher that is still made and available. If your realtor is going to pay for your Warranty plan as a gift for giving them business, make sure it's not First American.

FAHW will leave you on hold for 30-50 minutes, then you will speak to someone you cannot understand, or who does not understand you. I used their Messaging system to try to expedite the claim information and it took 5 days to get a response. Service technician showed up on the wrong day, and when they did show up on the day we had the appointment, they were over 30 minutes late, beyond the 3 hour window. Then, they claim some items are not covered, after already having 2 Customer Service reps at FAHW tell me they were. Bait and Switch! Called again, on hold 47 minutes and after explaining to the agent I asked to be transferred to a Supervisor....on hold 15 more minutes and then... Read More

This is a horrible company! Don't use them. I had them for 2 years and had filed 4 claims with them. Either they would make an excuse about it being not covered or the contractor wouldn't show up and perform the service. Worst customer service I've ever dealt with
