Coverage Options - 4.1 / 5

First American offers two plans, the Basic coverage, and Premier coverage.

While their basic coverage protects mainly kitchen appliances, their Premier plan offers complete protection for all main home systems as well as appliances.

In line with most businesses in the industry, however, they will not cover cosmetic damages, damages due to improper maintenance or installation, and any known or unknown pre-existing conditions.

Coverage amounts differ by contract, yet their limits range around $3,000 in the aggregate for kitchen refrigerators, $1,500 for heating systems, and $500 for ductwork, which are substantially higher than comparable companies.

Contract & Price - 3.8 / 5

Annual premiums with First American can range from $300 to $500+ depending on the plan and option selections, quite reasonable within the home warranty industry.

The company extends a standard 12-month contract term and allows customers to obtain quotes and enroll online. Contracts seem to have different cancellation policies according to geographical location, so customers are advised to read their warranty agreements thoroughly before signing.

For instance, Texas residents may cancel their plans within the first seven days of coverage for a full refund, whereas Virginia residents have 20 days to cancel and receive back the entirety of their payment, provided they have not filed any claims under said contract.

This company has failed to stand by their contract. I filed a claim for a leaking sewage line. The contractor they sent spent 8 mins and never provided a report to me or AHW. My claim was escalated to an emergency situation but never followed up with a contractor, or with me. A supervisor supposedly call contractor to get the report so they could get approval for the repair. That never happened even though I informed them there was sewage flowing under my house. They never offered to get another contractor out and only offered to pay $275. to a outside contractor. They failed to fulfil they part of the contract but told me that i did my follow the contract because I got an outside... Read More

I had two accounts with them because my property manager liked them. I'm still current with my rental property until this contract expires. To be clear I have the PREMIER plan and the extra $100 to cover the AC. For my rental property they have fixed things like dryer element going out and a leaky faucet, but for $522 a year and $85 a call that didn't save me any money. For my property in South Florida, my AC went out end of July. They let me go 13 days with no AC in this horrid sweaty heat. I had a friend who was able to put a booster on my unit to get me some relief once I decided to not use First American at all and buy a new AC. This is how it went down... First they made an... I am not really sure how First American can have so many stars. Our furnace went down. They collected our service fee asap. They took 48 hours to contact someone who took 48 hours to contact us. We were without heat four days with no one looking at furnace. We bought space heaters. When the service company came they left the door off furnance, etc. no note. American First said the sort was in stock and needed to be picked up by the service contractor. Numerous calls and another five days and we finally had it fixed. We made soooo many calls to try and find out what was going on. A total of fourteen days without heat before being fixed. You can pay for the warranty and it helps but... Read More

My 7 year old microwave handler is broken and the frame is cracked. First American dispatched a technician to come and diagnose the problem. One week ago, the representative told me that they are waiting for a backordered par and will take care of it. Well, this is not the full story!! Now they suddenly insist that the handler is broken due to external force and thus is not covered. And if I appeal the decision, I need to pay out of pocket for a second opinion. Nice try to avoid responsibilities while accepting premiums. Is it that unusual for plastic frame to wear out after 7 years? It was my first claim out of two years and I was hoping to get the positive results by talking to two... Read More

They offer horrible customer service and when you file a claim if they can not find a contractor they simply refund your money and say sorry we can’t help you. They will not help in the event something is broke needs fixed or in my recent experience my hvac tune up was not able to be serviced because everyone is busy and they couldn’t assign it to anyone

Worst company ever. legalized insurance fraud. Sent contractors that incompetent on multiple issues. Multiple times. Always find a way not cover actual covered repairs. No Service. I can't beleive that you are even listed on any site and have not been removed. As all the reviews I have read are true as I actually experience it with your company.

On 1/26, we reported an issue of drainage blockage in the master bath room, the shower has been accumulating waters. The water became stagnant in the drainage pipe. The plumber dispatched by FAHW contacted us 5 days later. Even the master bath room was no longer used, the accumulated water in the pipe went bad and start smelly. After discussed the urgency, we were told it will take another 4 days to send somebody over. I called FAHW back, they told me their service level is sending service man with 10 business days. At the end we decided to forget the warranty, called an outside plumber to get the issue resolved. We understood the COVID impact. But the 10 days turnaround time is obviously... Read More

I have to apologize, my post was meant for American Home Shield, but from what I've read from the other postings, this company is just as bad!
