Our Overall Rating: 1.1 / 5 (Poor)

HSA Home Warranty policies cover the warranty industry's standard list of appliances and home systems. Policies are available on an annual basis. Once you pay your premium, your policy is in full effect, with no waiting period or home inspection required. Unfortunately, the company doesn't provide a lot of specifics on the most important aspects of a home warranty policy on its website. They do not describe the variety of plans they offer, the cost of those plans, the benefit limits of their policies, or the deductibles associated with making a claim. HSA may have innovative policies, low deductibles and plan prices, great service partners, or a host of other benefits. You have to request a quote to find out.

Speaking of requesting a quote, we also have some concerns about their privacy policy. Once you submit your information to HSA —which you must do to get a quote—the company reserves the right to share your data with marketing affiliates, real estate companies, and other entities with which you might prefer not to share your information.

Contract & Price - 3 / 5

HSA's starting price of $589 for a 12-month contract, makes them the most expensive base-level option on the market. While an exact quote can be generated via an online calculator, we strongly recommend that potential policyholders thoroughly read all the fine print. Once a policy has been activated it is irreversible, since HSA does not offer any sort of cancellation or money-back policies.

Sample Contract

HSA provides a sample contract for potential customers on its website: HSA Sample Contract

Cancellation Policy

The warranty is non-cancelable by either party except for the following: A. The contract fees are not paid. B. Fraud or misrepresentation of facts material to the issuance of this contract. C. If the contract provides coverage for the seller during the listing period and the listing is withdrawn or expires. Should the contract be cancelable under the laws of the state where the contract holder resides, an allowable administrative fee will be charged upon cancellation. HSA may, at its option, decline to issue any renewal or cancel any contract, if the contract fees are not paid within 10 days of the due date.

Claims Processing - 2.5 / 5

With their claim of “the nation’s largest network of professional contractors”, HSA aims to provide quick, efficient service. Their service fees range between $75-$100, with no waiting period. Their 30-day recall period, as well as not requiring maintenance records, reflect the company’s wish to make their services easily accessible. Under certain circumstances, HSA’s 24/7 claims department may approve the use of a contractor that operates outside of their network.

Possibly the worst customer service ever. I had several customer service reps that English was not their first language. That's like taking a taxi cab job with no license. I don't care where you are from, if you can't do the job, why are you there? I had a very had time understanding them and when I asked to speak to another rep, she spoke the exact same way. So there was confusion over what repair was to be made. Another rep, which I had a hard time understanding said they would review the tape and get back to me so I would have to pay a fee ahead of time and if they were proved to have misunderstood then I would get at least one of my service fees back. Never heard back from them. Then... Read More

These people issued a contract which says I pay the contractor when work is done. Now they say they won’t dispatch a contractor unless I pay them the fee directly ahead of time. Their customer service people hang up on me all the time. These people are clearly scamming people.

When the air conditioning went out and shower faucet started leaking in my new home, I was relieved when I remembered the sellers purchased a year policy from HSA. Unfortunately, I should not have been relieved. They charge you $100 just to speak to someone on the phone, they send sketchy, poorly rated contractors out that never show up, and they don't cover basic things that the policy claims it in fact covers. Do not waste your money purchasing a home warranty from HSA!

DO NOT SIGN UP FOR THIS COMPANY THEY ARE INCOMMPETENT AND DO NOT COVER THE STUFF THEY SAY THEY WOULD, THEY USE TERRIBLE VENDORS, THEY LIE AND WASTE YOUR TIME AND MONEY. The vendors will not show up, they will keep you on the phone for hours with no resolution. They are a joke!

If I could give negative stars I would. My AC upstairs went out a week ago, and the technician came out and stated that he could not access so HSA denied the claim and would not fix my AC. We tried to get a second opinion and the company would not come back out. DON'T WASTE YOUR MONEY!!!!!! This company takes your money then works with shady company who will tell then what ever they need to hear to not pay the claim. You are better off taking the monthly premium and putting it in a savings account and earning interest on your money.

AC went out 5 days ago. Its been 90 degrees, with a heat index even higher in the upstairs part of my home. Where I work. My fiance is an extreme life long asthmatic and has had to have 2 nebulizing treatments to STAY ALIVE. They do not have anyone who speaks English as their first language, which is fine, unless you need them to understand the contract terms, laws in America and breach. They have sent us out for two technicians promising they will get our air fixed or replaced and they just say the same thing "We are still reviewing, we want a different opinion." I BET YOU DO! Sucks when you have to actually do what you say you're going to do! We don't want our AC to be broken either, but... Read More

Do Not use this company. I recently had an issue with the vent flue on my water heater. I called HSA two separate times to ensure the repair would be covered. Both times I was put on hold for extended periods of time and was finally told that repairs to the flue would be covered. After the repair was finished I was billed by the contractor for the repair and told HSA would not cover it. More calls to HSA's customer service dep and being put on hold for nearly an hour (I believe they were hoping I would give up) I was told the repair wouldn't be covered. Needless to say I will not be renewing. and I will recommend to realtors I know not to solicit this company

I had an appointment scheduled for my stove and dishwasher. My kitchen sinks both blocked up tonight and my washing machine is stuck on the top opening it up to the point I have to pry it open. I just bought my home. I called to report I need someone here tomorrow because of the flooding in the sinks and the man said not only had my tech cancelled out on me due to an accident and didn't know when they would be able to come for my other appt. but unless I'd of called tonight like I did, I never would have known. I was also told my circumstance doesn't warranty someone to come tomorrow even though the sinks are blocked with sludge water and I am watching my 83 year old mom with... Read More

DO NOT BUY! The worst customer service and takes 3 days to get a Piedmont air conditioner guy to come out. I spoke to manager and they said that there was nothing they could do. I have a 6 month baby and 95 degree weather outside. If I could give them 0 stars I would.
