The company offers service contracts that cover the repair or replacement of major components of home systems and appliances. Customers can also purchase optional coverage for pools and spas, guest houses, home electronic systems, roof leaks, maintenance services, and more.

Placed an order for AC repair (unit not cooling) May, 2017. Waited several days before agent came (Cabot Mechanical LLC not recommended). Finally came, did not explain repairs, collected service fee and left. August, 2017 unit still not cooling sufficiently. Called and placed another request for service and was told would have to pay ANOTHER service fee. They sure don't have any problem collecting premiums.

The plumbing company should have come from my home city, where there are people we know better. Not from outside of my city. I got 2 notices that the fee was not paid and it HAS to be paid up front or no one will even look at the problem. The people could not fix the problem and really did not seem to care. The people also would say the first guy who came out had moved suddenly to Oklahoma at the same time they were putting me on hold so they could see when he could come back out as the second guy messed up the first guys work to slow the running leak??? My first service call experience with American Home Shield was unfortunately negative and I would not recommend AHS based on this. I had a plumbing issue (washer drainage causing back-up in home) and part of the assigned plumbers recommendation was to place a scope in the drainage system to see if there was a blockage. When he called AHS for authority to do this, he was denied which meant we had to pay htis amount (@$250) out of pocket.
Additionally, I tried to discuss this with AHS after the fact and they have absolutely no way to e-mail them with questions or feedback and when you call them, the hold time is at least 60+ minutes.
I do not recommend American Home Shield.

This is honestly a total waste of money. I literally waited on hold for over two hours and never got through to an agent. The people that were eventually sent out on another job, came, took one look at the problem, said they'd have to charge extra to go under the house and then left. And I had to pay $75 for that "service." Another company they sent out never showed up-and I had to pay $75 for that because I had no proof they didn't come. It's garbage.

My air conditioning has been broken much of the summer and the repair company has not fixed it and is really difficult to get in touch with. AHS reps are very helpful and kind, but again, I have to wait on hold a long time to speak to anyone. Still waiting on my A/C to be repaired. My 5-year-old son and I are sleeping in the basement. :(

I recently bought an American Home Shield Home warranty for the second time. 15 years ago I purchased a home that automatically came with an American Home Shield warranty. The day I moved in after closing after inspections, my AC unit stopped working. I immediately called American Home Shield they came out replaced the outside unit and my son and I were cool again. Now having bought my second home I was in the market for another home warranty. Thinking all home warranties were equal, I went with a less expensive plan with a different company. Long hold times withe customer service averages 45 min to an hour which is particularly frustrating when you have to call multiple times in one day to get something accomplished. I have been trying to get my AC fixed for a month and a half and I keep getting the run around. I've spent countless hours on hold, had 3 separate companies come out, been explained some fine print that was not in my contract, and been given false hope that this would be taken care of in a timely manner and it hasn't.
