American Home Shield's coverage is among the most comprehensive we've seen in the industry. The company covers considerably more appliances and systems than its competitors and has fewer coverage limitations.

The company recently updated its plans—they now have three to simplify choosing the right one for your home. American Home Shield focuses on the repairs that offer the most value to consumers, removing items that are inexpensive to replace, increasing its coverage limits on appliances in its most expensive plan to reflect today's higher-priced, "gourmet" appliances, and adding roof leak coverage.

American Home Shield offers consumers a choice of three plans, following a good-better-best model. Its ShieldSilver plan warrants systems only, but can be amended with certain add-ons, including pools, electronics, and guest houses. Its ShieldGold plan covers a range of systems and appliances, again with add-on options. Its ShieldPlatinum plan covers everything in the ShieldGold plan, plus roof leaks up to $1500 and some routine maintenance services. These include free HVAC tune-ups, unlimited top ups on your AC refrigerant, coverage for code violations including permits.

All told, American Home Shield covers 23 systems and appliances, considerably more than most of their competitors, and fully covers 11 of those items. There is no limit on the number of claims a customer can file over the year’s contract, either.

American Home Shield has a flexible pricing policy and offers three different coverage plans and two trade service call fee levels: $100 and $125.

This allows consumers to have input into the annual price based on their budgetary needs.

We requested a quote for a single family home under 5,000 square feet located in a medium-sized midwestern city. The minimum annual premium (Shield Silver Plan) was $59.99 per month. The maximum premium (Shield Platinum Plan) was $109.99. So AHS prices are somewhat higher than many competitive plans. Consumers should note that their final price will vary by plan, service call charge selected, and location.

Be careful with these "Home warranties" purchased this product due to the reviews posted. I am posting my personal experience. My fridge went out on 04/20/21 called in for a repair and paid my deductible. We were able to get it looked at 04/23/21 by AXIS Repair in oceanside... and of course they can care less if we have a fridge or not... compressor was the problem. AXIS Repair ordered part until 04/27/21. On 05/03/21 called Axis repair to inquire about compressor- and the lady on the phone was more interested in me asking for a cash out to Home shield vs them fixing my fridge. It's now 05/11/21 and we still do not have a fridge, part is not in yet. Home shield and the service company... Read More

I started with American Home Shield over 20 years ago, and they definitely helped me from time to time over the years. The peace of mind is an important factor in choosing warranty companies. Approximately 10 years later, I searched for other warranty companies after I moved to a different state, and I decided to pursue a different company other than American Home Shield . I was pretty disappointed with them only about three months after I signed up. I came back to American Home Shield due to their prompt response time and follow through, and their flexibility in coverage options.

Horrible service! I have waited for4 months, and still nobody takes care of my dishwasher and oven. I spent hours to call them every week, and every time a representative in Philippine answers my phone call. First, he/she will apologize; then, will take 20 to 40 minutes to check the status of the case; at last, he/she has no idea and no solution, and he/she promises will contact the repair company or the parts order team and give me a call back. And days after days, no one contact me. Then I have to call them again, and experience everything again. Soooooooooooooo exhausted!!!!!!!!!!! You should definitely NOT to buy the plan from American Home Shield!!!!!!!!!

I have been with AHS for about 19 years. In the past I have used them without an issue. I recently called for an HVAC technician to do a tune up on my A/C system before the summer. I wanted someone who was registered with AHS in case I had any issues. The contractor they assigned to me had a one star review and over 300 complaints with the BBB. I called AHS to request a different contractor and they refused! I was told I could not change the appointment so I cancelled the call and hired a separate contractor to do the tune up. He was very professional and completed the tuneup in less than an hour. I am now researching finding a new warranty service company

To whom this may concern: Please be on notice that I have hire two attorneys to handle my protracted and intentionally delayed (by you) claim. The first attorney will be assisting me in claiming full reimbursement of my payment for the purchase cost of the unit, as well as installation, parts and labor, with punitive damages for bad faith claim against you. I didn’t choose AHS. They came with the purchase of my home. But I am so glad the previous owners chose AHS. I love this company and their service. I added additional coverage because of how they have handled all my claims thus far!

AHS. Is the best Co. in the market. I have tried other ones and they don’t cover as much as this one. They process the claims very quick and send only professional people to fix them.

If I could give less than 1 star I would. This company is a total scam. If you are in escrow choose another company. Language barrier issues. My claim was initially denied ( no email to let me know) on a 2006 Kenmore refrigerator which just quit cooling- was declared defective ( by warranty company) “because there was no part/ valve to open and add Freon.” ( as near as they could explain to me. I spent hours & multiple phone calls trying to explain common knowledge fridge design and mechanics to non- English comprehending people. Save yourself the hassle.
